The North Division looks like this:

Syracuse Boston College Notre Dame Penn State Pittsburgh Maryland Va. Tech Miami
That's one nasty seven game conference slate for any of those schools, a lot of history between them when they were playing their best football. Miami just makes it official as one of the toughest divisions in football - it has a northern flair and it's far away from everybody as it is. Big programs. Big games. Big money. ACC.
In the South Virginia Wake Forest UNC Duke NC State Clemson Ga. Tech FSU
That looks like a lot of wins yearly, and I would see us being paired with BC because of the leather helmet thing, and FSU with Miami, UVA/Va. Tech and so on. Just rotate the other 7 teams once a year either home or away so we'd play a different North division team each year and vice-versa.
Regional identity and historic matchups and rivalries, with crowds that can travel realistically around to most of the games on the schedule and other team sports a much lighter budget.
I'd be pretty happy if the ACC turned in to something like that.

Once you get South of Daytona you're back in the North.***

Miami is southern by lattitude and that is about all.

They're not really close to any schools as it is, north or south, so you might as well put them in a division where they can rekindle some past glory in their matchups. It also gives the northern schools an annual Florida game, which is a big thing for them. From a recognition and cohesiveness standpoint, Miami's a more natural fit with the schools in the northern division than the southern.

Whatever team played in the South Div. wouldn't get much of an RPI SOS rating for playing such a weak schedule. And to be dominated by 4 teams in NC, no thank you.

Just my opinion, but there are two problems with your North Division.Penn State has allready said they are not leaving the Big 10,and Notre Dame is more likely to join the Big 10 over the ACC.Better pick two more schools, and one of them is not West Virginia, which would probably be asked to join the SECif and when that conference expands. Also right now the ACC has only 14 teams and has shown little interest in expanding to 16 teams before 2014/15 at the earliest. So I would not count on the ACC turning into this,or something like this!
