The NIL could realistically be the undoing of college

Jan 9, 2022, 2:15 PM

football within just a few years. I hope like crazy there is some kind of intervention to put controls in place or it's just going to be professional football. It will have nothing to do with what college is really about. Nothing.

So it wasn't the schools making millions, it was the players

If they get NIL money, that should eliminate their free scholarship. Most players only receive their free scholarship and no NIL money.

Exactly!!! Why should we have to pay for their education if they get paid.

Could? Id say its well on its way to already being done.

Handful of markets/teams that can buy the best players will forever be the only teams that matter. So, either this somehow gets regulated, or a separate tier of college athletics emerges that nixes all this paid player bs.

What they fail to talk about is what colleges are going to do when supporters, like me, have had enough and will not continue to send money to IPTAY and other booster programs for scholarships. They fail to realize that a number of people that send money to these programs are not wealthy and probably don't want to pay for the scholarship of an 18 year old kid that makes four times as much money as they do. Not to mention that the excrement will hit the fan when all of the women's rights groups will want to know about why the 50+ women on our rowing team are not getting the opportunity to make some money.

Typical...over generalization of NIL

Jan 9, 2022, 3:46 PM

There's 130 FBS programs (85 x 130) so about 11000 division 1 players. On average 1 to 3 players will get NIL deals with any teeth ($$$) to it. Sure big, deep pocket programs can spread the wealth, but they do it already.

Only about 250 players (projected stars) are getting paid bucks for their NIL. All the other players need money for scholarships and stipends so keep contributing bc it is necessary.

Another couple of points; 1) after the one time/no sit out transfer .... Kids can't move around plus the overcrowding of rosters due to covid year diminishes. 2) NCAA clowns have been effectively neutered and need to allow the power 5 commissioners manage their product with 21st century guidance.

College football isn't going away, it's just catching up to our capitalistic system.

Everybody need to take a deep breath and watch this thing find its proper level and work itself out over the next few years.

It’s already begun and transfer portal started it. NASCAR 2.0. No fans will be attending in about 5-10 seasons. Stadiums half full and media wondering why? Truth hurts sometimes but it’s ruined already
