Not that we want to stay in the ACC, but does this playoff

Sep 2, 2022, 8:53 PM

Expansion put an end to us leaving considering we’re almost guaranteed to be in it every year with an easier ride to boot?

Alternatively does this force ND to have to join a conference considering they will never get a top 4 seed and bye?

Do you want to just make it, or do you want to win it?

Big difference

If Clemson stays in the ACC they will eventually get left behind. The $ gap in the SEC and B1G will make it hard to keep up. I think the difference right now is like 50 million per year which will climb with the new 12 team playoff approval!

That is definitely an issue especially considering we’ve added a number of non-revenue sports that will continue to eat away at the limited funds.

The ND question is legit...

...can't see how they aren't looking for a place to land right now.

I predict ESPN will renegotiate the ACC deal and give them just enough money to " almost keep up" with the B1G and SEC until the NCAA is gone and the two Super Conferences are created.

As pathetic as the ACC is, it's in ESPN best interest for Clemson along with the Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia teams to survive.

No reason for ND to join a conference. To get a first round bye they would have to win a conference championship game. So it is either a first round playoff game or a conference championship game to get to the field fo 8. Both would be against pretty good teams so it really is no different for them.

Theoretically, though, ND would have more time to rest after

Sep 2, 2022, 9:46 PM

A conference championship than the first round.

It’s all about the $$$

Can’t afford to hang around the wannabe programs in the ACC.

I’m not sure some of the ACC schools are even “wannabe” programs

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I guess you missed the part where

Sep 2, 2022, 9:45 PM

Our domination of crappy teams all year didn’t set us up well for our last two CFP appearances. When we had a good Louisville, FSU, ND, etc we were properly prepared. Those days are over. Not to mention the media constantly touting SEC and B1G while trashing the ACC will ultimately cost us in recruiting.

Who doesn't think we can win more games each year by staying in the ACC? Be honest children.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We could win even more in the MAC

Sep 2, 2022, 10:44 PM

I think you guys begging for an easy schedule hate Clemson football, or at least agree with naysayers who claim we get in CFP only because we play in a weak conference. Strange how no one in the SEC wants out. Sure it’s tougher, but it also makes you better. Especially when you realize some recruits are only going to play in the SEC.

This will widen the gap between the ACC and the SEC/B1G. SEC will have 3-4 teams in playoff every year, B1G will have 2-3. ACC only 1 or 2. That’s more money in the SEC/B1G pot combined with their huge TV money advantage.

ND has less incentive to join a conference because they now have a 1 in 6 chance to make the playoff compared to the 1 in 4 and they get to rest on conference championship weekend.
