how much I like Brownell, why I want him to succeed at Clemson, and why I can't be a hater, even if get frustrated with the results with him in charge.

Agreed. It’s not like we have ever had Wooden strolling the sidelines in Littlejohn. It is frustrating sometimes though

Too many gut punches.

Not defending Brownell, but Ellis, Barnes, and Purnell all had the same gut wrenching late season loses. We as fans probably don't remember them because he's been here 14 years. I still remember Tate George ripping my heart out at the buzzer after we came back from being 1800 points down. I remember Barnes team losing to Minnesota after we were up 6-8 points in OT in the sweet 16. Purnell's teams seemed to run out of gas late in the season. Brownell's teams seem to lose the same way as all the other's. It's really perplexing. I'm 50 and have watched the basketball team lose the same way for 50 years.

I would disagree with comparing the sweet 16 games of Barnes and Ellis to that of Brownells. We were right there and had the chance to win those games and go to the elite 8. In Brownells sweet 16 we got blown out in the first half to the point that Kansas took all their primary starters out in the 2nd half. We got hot from 3 at the very end of the game and they put their starters back in. They easily won that game but the final score made it seem like it was close. It wasn't.
I put Brownell quite a step down from Ellis and Barnes. And quite a step down from Purnell regular season wise. Brownell can change that if he has a deep tournament run this year. We have a lot of work to do.

First, it’s weird that you are trying to give more credit to Sweet 16 appearances under Ellis and Barnes than you do Brownell. Ellis’s Sweet 16 doesn’t even count anymore due to NCAA sanctions, and while Barnes’ team was really close, we still lost. That was an incredible game though (one where we unfortunately choked away a six point lead in the first overtime). We ultimately lost that game by 6.
Second, in our Sweet 16 game against Kansas, they didn’t have a bunch of scrubs in when we made our second half comeback. It was a legitimate comeback, and since you seem to be into moral victories with Ellis and Barnes, give Brownell’s team for making adjustments and playing great down the stretch to give us a chance. It was still a close game at the end. We lost by 4, which is less than we lost the 1997 Sweet 16 game by.
Finally, I agree that a nice NCAA Tournament run this year would go a long way. Our program needs it.

Completely disagree.
Brownell's first 5 years were hampered by a few things..... the leftovers from purnell (except for year 1) were below average. He didnt have a good first recruiting class. Bernard sullivan was a bust as a 4* top 100 player. Only rod hall and kj mcdaniels panned out. His first recruiting class weren't seniors until his fifth year and only 1 remained. 3 transferred due to playing time, kj left a year early, and rod hall was the only senior that was still on the team.
Since the renovations, our team has been much better than the first 6 years. In the last 6 years, we have had a sweet 16 run, another ncaa team, and 2 teams that i thought were robbed of ncaa bids. The first bubble team had a 35 net, but unfortunately the net was not prioritized. Last year we were robbed 100%. That is 4 strong teams in 6 years and that doesn't include this year's team. If we simply make the tournament this year, you could argue that this would be the best 7 year span in clemson basketball history. It just so happens to come once we actually spent some money on our program. Who would have thought that?
On top of this, if you look into the future we have good talent coming in. Our sophs this year were IMO his best recruiting class at the time. We have asa thomas who redshirted and had offers from great schools all across the midwest. We have jake heidbreder who was all conference in the VERY strong mountain west (sarcasm). Lastly we have brownell's highest rated class coming in with 2 top 100 prospects, and ace buckner. The future looks bright when it comes to talent on our team.

so we'll just have to agree to disagree.
Bottom line, beyond being inconsistent and mediocre for pretty his entire 13+ seasons at Clemson, he has only taken three teams to the NCAA Tournament, and one of those was with players he inherited from the previous coach. Spin that any way you want if it makes you feel better but by ANY standard, that is totally, completely, and entirely unacceptable and I am still not confident he'll make the tournament this year.

You are conveniently ignoring the last half of his post

which talks about our most recent seasons and recruiting classes.
As I’ve said before, the logic here is hilarious sometimes. Coaching is very much a “what have you done for me lately?” but some of you like to go way back in time in a feeble attempt to make your argument better (“the last 14 years” to complain about Brownell and minimize his more recent success, and “the last 10 years” with Dabo to minimize his recent struggles).

Let me get this straight, his first tourney was purnell's players, but wasnt the next year purnell's players too? All purnell's players except for a freshman class. When is the last time we had a big time impact freshman? Unfortunately clemson has never recruited 5 star one and done type players.

I don't get your meaning. How does constant negativity help our team? We have a great coach for Clemson but he needs to find a way to win 2-ish more games per year which would typically get us in the dance most years. Do we start over with a new coach who may or may not be successful, who may or may not stay if he is successful and may or may not actually care about the school or do we keep our coach and find a way to help get those other two wins?
