The Future SEC

Slow day in the office so I started thinking - here is what I think makes the most sense for the Future of the SEC if Clem/FSU/UNC/UVA are added. 4 pods with 5 teams each - each pod has 2-3 teams that could win their pod. The winners of each pod meet in an SEC Tournament. Pod 1 - Alabama, Auburn, LSU, UNC Vandy Pod 2 - UGA, Florida, Florida State, Arkansas, Mizzu Pod 3 - Texas, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Miss St. UVA Pod 4 - Clemson, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennesee, Kentucky
Thoughts?

SEC grad here. UVA isn't the attraction some believe it to be. I'm thinking A&M would like that pod setup you have there though. Pretty easy road.

I agree on UVA - Not sure why the SEC would want them. So you think A&M would cruise past texas and Ole miss?

The SEC wants UVA for basketball plain and simple. They need march madness tv revenue. An SEC team hasn’t won a national championship in basketball in a long time. Kentucky probably over a decade ago i’m guessing.

Teams max out at 5 units per ncaa tournament for their conference. Five units for 2021 is worth like 1.68 million. So because a big basketball program could be worth let's say 2 million you are going to invite them and pay them 100 million? This does not include their value for regular season games but it can't be a motivating factor in my opinion.

I think you switch UVA (who the SEC may not want, could be VT) with OU to keep yearly game with Texas. Then the pods play nine conference games playing each other on a rotating basis (play all teams over three years) and the winners of the two, two pod groups play in SECCG.

My thoughts Ed Zachary. Swapping UVa for Oklahoma makes travel easier on everybody. And, it maintains the Oklahoma / Texas rivalry.

Make UGA part of USuC and Clemson pod. Play Dawgs every year like we used to.

What logic did you use to pair these?
Why break up Texas and Oklahoma? same with Clemson and FSU?
There does not seem to be a geographic rhyme or reason.

I was hoping for a Tiger Pod:
Clemson, Auburn, LSU, and Missouri.
(If they require 5 teams, add Princeton.)

Sounds cool, but to me no pods/divisions is beat. Best two at the end of the season play for the title. If you have ties….look to other stats.

Nice college try with pods. Deputy SEC commissioner spoke at Savannah QB Club this past November. He briefed SEC will be getting away from East/West divisions so pods may be coming. Sticking with your premise and some inputs to your post, how about this:
Pod 1 - Alabama, Auburn, LSU, UNC, Vandy Pod 2 - UGA, Florida, Mizzu, Tennessee, UVA Pod 3 - Texas, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Miss St, Arkansas Pod 4 - Clemson, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Florida State, Kentucky

How about we go more regional?
Pod 1 - Texas, Texas A&M, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas Pod 2 - LSU, Ole Miss, Miss St, Auburn, Alabama Pod 3 - UGA, FSU, Florida, Clemson, Vandy Pod 4 - South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, UVA, Tennessee
Pod 4 intentionally weak just to give the Coots hope each year.

The breakdown would be good but all you assume the SEC will not at Big12 teams. Do you know the sports definition of assume?
