first softball team?
Would 10 wins be an accomplishment?
Any chance they make the NCAA tournament?
National championship?? [it's only unthinkable if you don't think it]
BTW posted this on the Baseball Bored -- waiting for mods to set up the new Softball Bored.

It really depends on who we get as coach. This is probably the most

Important hire of drads career. If he gets this wrong I'm not sure the tnets will have a favorable response.

was one of the top candidates being discussed. However, he has a reputation from his coaching days at Radford as being a bit of an a$$.
Sharonda McDonald, the top assistant at Florida, and Travis Wilson, the top assistant at FSU are also names that I've heard mentioned.

every year is a national championship, and if the coach can't make that happen then we need to find someone who can.

Doesn't matter that it is a new program, the expectations

should be the same as for baseball...undefeated season and national championship with no runs given up!
Siriusly, I think we should be looking at young assistants from Oklahoma, Florida, Arizona, Oregon for our first head coach...but I suspect we'll go after a smaller school's head coach.
Patiently waiting for the new bored.

the expectations should be rather high

It'll depend how good our facility is and how good of a coach we can get. But Clemson should support softball very well. It will easily be the most popular Clemson women's port immediately and it will really explode if we are good very fast.
The NCAA tournament should absolutely be an expectation in the 1st 3 years. The ACC is not really all that good. FSU is a top 10 program but after that nobody was top 25 this year. UNC and Notre Dame made the NCAA tournament, but Georgia Tech, NC State, Virginia etc etc all do not have very good teams. We can became the 2nd best ACC team in no time. After the first 3 years the expectations should be to be a top 16 seed and host a regional. And we should make the WCWS in the 1st 10 years of existence.

Jenny Finch, hands down, my favorite choice for coach. Then, I won't care how many games they win.

that is pretty nice for less than $10 million. If we at least match what they have and make a good hire for head coach we'll be in a great position to get good quick. Getting competent transfers the first few years and signing strong classes will also help.
For too many years the lady ##### were the only major program available. USC-Upstate has a great program and there are a lot of good players in SC that are thrilled Clemson is getting a team.

Yea, one of LSU's best pitchers is from Clemson and would have been playing for the real Tigers had they had a program. She helped them make the College World Series this year. Go Tigers.
