The DJ hate needs to stop…

I know it’s been a disappointing season, but there is a difference in being critical and degrading a 19 year old young man while you hide behind a message board screen..
DJs season could be better, of course.
But there are a lot of other obvious problems.
Poor OL play and development over the years , sacks allowed.
Poor play calling offensively.
Drops (there were at least 4 tonight)
Contested passes not being caught like we are used to (we do not have a Higgins, Williams like receiver who just goes and gets it this year , Ngata is close)
Not to mention his parents are currently going through a divorce..which surely takes a mental toll.
If anything , aim your criticism higher towards the guys who get paid millions of dollars to make all our 4 and 5* athletes winners.
There’s a lot more problems than DJ. So quit making him a scapegoat for your frustration.
This kid is a tiger and we want him to succeed.

DJ is a professional athlete who has been terrible this year. He’s not the only problem, but he is the worst qb in the worst power 5 conference. He deserves every bit of the fair criticism he’s getting.

DJ chose pay for play like all the other players who fought for the NIL, while kids like mine will have to pay for school and don’t get a free ride. So if work , school and football is too much. Do needs to let one of them go or give up his scholarship to a kid who has to pay to go to school.

I don’t understand these people. You can’t blame the kids. Blame the adults that made this possible. The last time I checked the athletic department at Clemson was or has built a media center just for the players to take advantage of the NIL. As usual it’s the grown ups that screw everything up for the kids.

You think people want DJ on the pine because he's making money? You sure it has nothing to do with the fact that he is ranked #105 (out of 109 QBs with 14 attempts a game, so all non-option QBs) in yards per attempt, #101 in QB rating, #103 in touchdowns, #95 in completion percentage, and #81 in yards. There are only three QBs in the entire country worse than him statistically if you average those, and they play for North Texas, Indiana, and Old Dominion, with less bluechips than Clemson has receivers.

He’s average at best. Don’t hate the kid, just call it like I see it. He throws ducks and dirt balls to open receivers consistently. Has no pocket presence and sucks at decision making. Other qbs do more with way less talent.

Telling the truth about DJ not being a good QB isn't hating on him, it's called being honest!!! We have had better QB ride the bench until they transferred out to get playing time!!!As bad as I hate to say it, but, Kelly Bryant was a much, much better QB than DJ is, and that's a fact!!!

but to say DJ isn't a professional athlete when Bojangles and Dr. Pepper are sponsoring him, well either your not paying attention or you don't know what a professional athlete is. Poor choice of words. DJ is an awesome young man, but probably should be playing back up at Furman. I'm not saying that to be mean, just telling it like it is. But it's not just DJ. These WRs are not what we are used to. Dropping balls all danight and all season. So DJ hasn't gotten much help. And the Tight Ends are just ....I better not say. And we all know about the O-line issues. So it's not just DJ. In fact he looked a little better tonight. But don't you think Taisun Phommachanh deserves a chance?

Ok, I'll stop hating on DJ and turn it to Dabo and ask why does he still have this guy trying to play QB? Like is full of ups and down and I hate it for the him, the team and for Dabo, but tough love decisions are made all the time, just look at Spencer Rattler at Oklahoma, the stakes were alot higher there. Maybe there isn't a strong backup like at Okla, but if the the backup has any dual threat capabilities, let's give him a shot. DJ maybe trying hard, but his running plays look a little half hearted. His movement in/out of the pocket lack luster, and shear look of determination isn't there. It's more of going through the motions and deer in headlights.

I agree the DJ haters need to stop.
Passing:
DJ is not as accurate a passer as Trevor, but hardly anyone ever has been. He can make the hard throws--sometimes--but he can rush and miss easy throws also. More so than one would expect at this level. John Wooden said, "Be quick, but don't hurry." DJ hurries way too often.
His arm is strong, perhaps as strong as Trevor's or Tajh's. Probably stronger than Deshaun's by a little bit. Less accurate than these three, maybe equivalent to Kelly Bryant. But somehow I would have to say he is a better passer than Kelly.
Running: He is big and strong, but he is not as elusive a runner as Kelly Bryant or Deshaun Watson. He is not as fast as Trevor, Kelly, or Deshaun. About as fast as Tajh perhaps.
He cannot run over people like Tajh Boyd could, but he can pick up a first down from third and long. If he would learn to take the snap under center, he could be useful on short yardage downs.
Leadership/intangibles: There was a mystical quality about Deshaun. The team seemed to relax and execute when he was quarterback. To almost the same degree for Trevor. Less so for Tajh, but still a fair amount. Kelly Bryant was not at the same level, nor does DJ inspire confidence in his teammates like the first three did, at least so far. Maybe next year.
Who would I rather see at quarterback on 4th and 15 in a national championship game? Ranking:
Trevor/Deshaun
Tajh
DJ
Kelly
Almost every team in America suffers from not having quarterbacks as good as Trevor or Deshaun. Live with it, Tiger fans!!
But DJ is good, and getting better and has a high ceiling. Will he achieve Trevor and Deshaun levels? Probably not.

The offensive woes are spread around but at center of it is the QB. Criticizing his play is legitimate. He makes bad decisions. For some reason he refuses to keep the ball on the read option. Every game he has first downs available if he keeps it. But he refuses even when the DE's are collapsing inside. His receivers don't help him at times but his throws are consistently inconsistant. When your punter makes the best throw of the night you've got QB issues. But ultimately what I see comes down to coaching. First being the decision not to try TP. It may not be the solution but you won't know till you try. Second, stop the BS comments in the presser. All Dabo has to do is step in front of the mic and say, "Yes, our O is bad. But we have the talent to fix it. Expect changes" But third, I suspect we have internal issues in coaching. Before it's fixed, Dabo might need a good humbling. I fear Pitt next week will provide it

The reality is this:
974 passing yards (82nd nationally)
4 passing TDs (tied for 103rd nationally)
3 interceptions (tied for 41st nationally)
42.3 QB rating (tied for 101st nationally)
These numbers aren’t acceptable for a 5 star recruit in his second year in a top program with elite talent and elite coaching.
DJ’s performance thus far rests squarely on the shoulders of DJ, Streeter, Elliott, and Dabo.
PERIOD.
Pointing this out isn’t “hating.”
But maybe you are referring to something else?

We have taken a 5* recruit and in less than 2 years have him playing like the 4th or 5th worst QB in the nation. I don't know whose fault that is but I think he is a total miss as a recruit. He does not fit our system and I don't think he ever will. I do not believe he will finish his career at Clemson and I don't think he will start for us next year. If he does, then may God help us.

2 first round qb draft pick and in the last 5-6 years every qb that has transferred became the starter at their subsequent program. We must really suck at qb development.

We are 4-2. We haven’t looked great. We almost lost a couple of those games. But we almost won the two games we lost. You can spin this anyway you want. Have at it. We are a mediocre team right now. The blame rests with a long list of people, not just DJ.
DJ has a fabulous arm. Probably one of the best in college football. But he is not a good quarterback right now. Personally I believe he will become a great quarterback. The question is when does this happen? Does it happen this year, next year or later? Time will tell. Personally I am firmly in support of DJ the remainder of this season.
The folks trashing DJ remind me of school in the summertime, no class.
