The difference between then and now

During our playoff run, we had:
Elite coaching staff (2 Broyles Award Winners) Elite talent on O & D 2 generational QBs Good special teams… good FG Kicking More depth Fewer turnovers Top 10 recruiting, missed on few
What we have now:
Inexperienced and unproven staff Very good D; below average O Inexperienced and underwhelming QBs Below average special teams, inconsistent FG kicking Many turnovers Less depth No portal presence Top 15 recruiting but missed on several
I’m sure I missed some but if we can get back to being closer to where we were, we will fix a lot of our issues.

I agree with the assessment. The same Head Coach is responsible for both scenarios. I hope he can return to the first.

It was also not made of top 10 recruiting classes.

Why are you including the last 4 classes for the 2016 natty? The average class ranking for that year was around 12. For the 2018 championship it was something like 10.5.

We do not have an average O. If we did, we'd be 8-0.

They could maybe be called average talent with JV level ball security.

Hold up - don't we have a Broyles award-winning Offensive Coordinator?
Most of the rest of this is opinion - "elite talent", "generational QB", "more depth". I'll give you the point on the kicking game though, at least this year.
Not sure we have more turnovers now than we did then. We've had more devastating turnovers, but not sure about the total number.

I’m calling TL and DW generational but that could be debated.

Theyre not. Excellent, yes, generational, not even close.

I know it’s confusing, but generational means once in a generation. They were a couple years apart. Not generational. Also, to be generational, they would have to be the best over the last ~25 ish years. Do you think either of them were the best quarterback in college in the last 25 years?

Good catch on Riley. I guess I forgot about that given where we are this year. A lot of people have called both TL and DW generational so I went with it but it is just an opinion, as you noted.

We didn't take replacing elite coaching seriously. Maybe Dabo thought

that his system was so perfect that nearly anyone could be successful within the program. IDK... but we are obviously getting killed by subpar coaching.

Thats exactly what Dabo believed....and wanted to give back to further create a culture in his own way except he didn't gradually do it.....he did it all at one time.
Its Dabo Swinney and Mr. Pride instead of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

In the 4 losses this year we have forced a grand total of 3 turnovers. Back in the day we would force 3 a game against good teams. We need to take the #### ball away Saturday and force the Irish to play catch up and have our front 7 feast on their bones.

We had "no portal presence" during our playoff run either. Guess you just wanted to throw that in? Armchair qb's are stupid

Then I guess we’re ALL stupid since we are all armchair QBs…
