Positives of Top Wr's Being Out.

Nov 23, 2021, 3:22 PM

Tho it really blows to lose guys like Ross, Ngata, Ladson and possibly EJ again this week, it's not like we were lighting teams up when all those guys were on the field. The fact is, we have to be a run first and run often team, our best players are the trio of RB's. Not to mention, it seemed like all those WR's were banged up and never getting separation or able to go full speed. Having guys like the Collins boys and Bringinstool to go along with the reliable Davis Allen at least puts fresh legs out there that are able to go full speed and get open. As weird as it looks, the offense has been way more productive with Collins and Allen as the go to targets while feeding those RB's. I think we'll be alright to finish the year like this and just hope next season we have a much more injury free season.

Not to mention how valuable the experience and depth we'll have. Both sides of the ball. Sets up nicely for a championship run. Builds everyone's confidence, including the coaches.

Opportunities that some of these guys wouldn't have even gotten in practice. I'd rather them make in game plays than in practice plays.

It forced our coaches to use the RB’s & TE’s more in the game plan, still think we have many chances with our TE’s that we miss across the middle or up field. I wish Lay would stay & work on catching the ball, the kid is crazy athletic if he could just catch consistently.

Ajou Ajou might be better just moving to TE too... he’s crazy athletic, hopefully he continues to improve, when the light comes on this kid is going to be incredible!

I have been thinking that DJ may have benefited in some way from having a select group of targets. He and B Collins seem to be on the same page. Our tight ends need more touches if he can just keep the ball down over the middle. Giving Shipley and Pace more touches is a good thing. Strange how it took a bunch of guys going down for the O to find an identity but it seems to settling in.

The Collins have more upside

than what I’ve seen out of the others. B Collins is a star in the making, possibly a first rounder. D Collins plays like a man on fire. If you didn’t see the video of his pancake block against Wake check it out. Being 8-3 sucks but some of the circumstances that got us here will probably be best for the team in the long run.

Imo Ajou Ajou is a freak athlete but not a fluid/coordinated athlete. Kind of reminds me of Rendrick Taylor who was a solid contributor but never class to becoming a star WR or TE. The best WRs imo are also pretty big time basketball players, Nuke and Tee come to mind.

Being 8-3 doesn't suck as bad as being 3-8 for sure. It's been a long time, but I still remember.

That’s the perspective that’s got me jacked

CootSmackdown16®. The experience that this team gained this year is something to keep in mind if you face CU in the next two years. Dangerous days are ahead for these teams.

The guys who are playing now seem willing to block.

Just saying...

Exactly, I believe that’s why we played lights out last week, we had fresh bodies out there. I’m so excited for next year though this battle tested young team is going to be a dangerous team and almost impossible to put away. Everyone got on Dabo for what they called coach speak but he’s 100% right this season is going to pay dividends next year. When other teams will break this group will have been there multiple times and know how to battle through it.

Undoubtedly the offense overall has been more productive recently ... coincidentally at the time when our best WRs have been out.

But I truly believe that the link between offense's improvement and the original-starter WRs being out is truly a circumstantial coincidence.

A huge X-factor in the offense's recent improvement has been the combination of continuity and the availability of our 6 best offensive linemen (with apparently M.Tate being the 6th best among the O-Line) in recent weeks.

Notice how the running game was anemic against UConn. We all saw how effective our running game was against W.Forest.

No one thinks that UConn's defense (including DL, LBs, or DBs) is equal to (not to say better) than W.Forest's. Why did Clemson's offense perform so much better against W.Forest than against UConn?

(* * *) All six of Clemson's remaining not-out-for-the-season O-Linemen were available for the W.Forest game; two of them were out for the UConn game. The running game does not exist without a healthy O-Line which has (1) good players who (2) know the plays and what they are doing. (The 6th O-Lineman, M.Tate, did not need to play against W.Forest.)
