The Clemson Offense has been branding since Dabo first took over...

When theChad and his HUNH, Smash-Mouf Spread first arrived from Tulsa, Dabo was asked about theChad, his O and what it would bring.
Dabo without hesitation replied, "It's the Clemson Offense." Of course that grabbed some attention, was a topic of conversation then and as some dug deeper in follow up, it was explained as many knew, theChad was hoping to parlay his Clemson time into a Head Coaching gig. What Dabo & the program wanted to avoid was the inevitable negative recruiting when theChad moved on, that theChad's Offense was leaving with him. Instead and the reason for the branding, although yes theChad was leaving, The Clemson Offense would not leave with him.
It makes perfect sense to those that understood then and now, because the reasons for the branding have not changed.
Is there anyone that believes what theChad installed looked the same as what Napier had instituted? I hope not, but they both ran The Clemson Offense.
Fast forward to Riley. He's an 11 Personnel heavy guy that will spice it up with 10 & other. His Dirt Raid wants to be balanced, 50/50 play call, which is philosophically very similar to what theChad hoped and also what ScElliott & Streeter longed to achieve. The desire is to be proficient at both, run/pass, taking advantage of what the Defense offers. There are good reasons Riley's scheme looks similar to prior Os at Clemson because of those philosophical similarities.
What Riley did immediately after showing up is toss the prior playbook, the terminology with it, skill position designations & sandwich boards. The sandwich boards were meant to communicate with the entire Offense, while Riley prefers communicating through his QB alone. It's a big change.
Not only did all the designations & terminology change, but Riley does not flip is Offense as was done before based on Hash/Mid ball placement. X & Z never change sides, while prior Field/Boundary did.
There are some that seem to confuse Game Control/Management with Play Calling. Make no mistake every HC has the authority, ability & need to change a call if only as simple as run/pass. Situational football, Game Control.
Nick Saban, one of my most ever favorites, appeared to be in an argument with Lane on the sidelines near the end of a game. Post game, Nick was asked by a reporter about the argument to which Saban replied, "Those aren't arguments, those are called ass chewings." Awesome and that's from a Defensive guy, who sat in the DB meetings, but knew exactly what he wanted to see in bringing that game home. That's not only Game Control, that's Total Control. Swing hard in case you hit it...
Here's Dabo Game Control early in his tenure.
2010, GT game, early in the 4th, Dabo huddles the O and staff on the field, then challenges them to drive the ball down GT's throats, milking clock and putting points on the board. "We are running the ball..." The Clemson O went on a nearly 8 minute, 15 play, 64 yard drive, which resulted in a FG to go up 27-13. 14 runs, 1 penalty; it was beautiful.

I get the frustration and disappointment, but I don't get that people that claim to closely follow this program seem to have missed so much, including the inception and reasoning for The Clemson Offense. If Dabo & Riley part ways at season's end, I'll thank GR as I thanked Napier, theChad, ScElliott & Streeter, look forward to the next, while wishing them all well.
This ain't no JV game...[insert snide comment below]

I’m no offensive scheme expert, but I know crap offense when I see it. Is Riley the problem? Is it Dabo? When I see wide open receivers being missed I go to the QB. I think QB execution is more of the problem than the play calling. Is Klubnik the whole problem or is he being poorly coached? That’s a tough one. Ultimately, it lies at the coaches feet IMO, and that’s on Dabo.

Well we took away a lot of the motion and complexity from Morris' offense when he left. So smart about offense we seem to mess it up.. We saw the gameplan against LSU in the national championship. Throw it up on the outside shoulder over and over again.. brilliant. We run for 6+ YPC on first down and we throw for 3 and outs the whole second half.

perplexed as to why we didn’t run the ball more to keep keep their prolific offense off the field. Our Oline was strong that year and we were moving people up front and getting positive yards on every run play.

The problems all come back to Dabo. Does this look like the offense that TCU had when skinner was running things how he wanted down there?
We never have a backup QB. We act like we can't get players anymore.. results get worse.. talent gets worse.. the cycle continues. We hired a bunch of coaches with no experience.. we are in a downward spiral. If our QB isn't getting it done who's job is it to put one on the field that can execute?
Who's job is to keep the program healthy? What a load of BS spin.

Dabo is responsible and that is in what I wrote, but for both you & CASDM9901...

my offering was only to address the confusion that's lingered, while creating consternation even anger over the branding of The Clemson Offense. It's been inexplicable to me, so I took the time... again... to address it.
As for your, CASDM9901's and so many others frustration/disappointment, I get it, but there are too many other threads addressing some of the things you both tabled.
I don't believe another one is needed.
Have a great one. Go Tigers.

For an Offense that wants to be balanced, how do we have a 3rd string WR

as our starting RB? Adam Randall has been tough as nails, but he lacks vision, he fumbles, he misses blocks, he lacks quick twitch change of direction, and he tries his hardest. Where are the RB recruits?

and assumptive reasons for snap counts. I believe Riley was asked recently about Tristan and how he could see the field more, which is in several other threads?
Sorry and not trying to dismiss you, it's fine water cooler chat, but will defer to those other threads.
Go Tigers.

This is correct the route tree being run is very different. People just assume it’s the same offense because we’re getting the same results. It’s different from what we used to run.

Makes sense to sell the continuity when we are winning. When things are going into the tank you sell change.

Great info. I never played football but the scheme looks so different from GR as it did from Chad and Elliott. I’m wondering the quit I see in many of the defensive players is they don’t like Allen’s Defensive scheme as much as they like Venables. Tom said his was simple and players would be more free. So far, I have not seen that. The one thing we can all agree is that this team’s effort does not seem to be there for some reason. Whether it is Cade going off the curve mentally or discontent among the team, or lack of buy in for Tom’s defensive scheme the result is the same- Worst Clemson effort ever for a Dabo coached team. Because of the transfer portal and the teams we play using it to max the teams we play are better and we can no longer sleep walk and win.
