It's high time NCAA goes back to wood bats

Is there any legitimate argument for sticking with aluminum bats? These young men are strong enough to be swinging wood. The private high schools in my area went back to wood bats about 15 years ago and it's been a success.
Apologies if germanium

"deaden" them so that swing results are comparable to wood. It's much easier / quicker to grow a good aluminum bat than it is to grow a tree, cut it down, and then whittle it down into a bat.

would be snapping wooden bats at an alarmingly expensive rate.
But, I haven't researched it myself.

Ive always heard the same thing and it makes sense with how many schools in D1 alone have baseball teams. I would think that the budget isnt very high for the smaller schools playing baseball. It would cost those schools alot of money to keep replacing wood bats as the season goes along. Hell look at the scholarship situation for baseball it shows how little money goes into the baseball program.

Rather than changing the types of metal and changing the baseball all the time.
The metal guys always have the price argument but I don't buy it.

will go through 120 bats a year on average. so using that lets say the average college player, playing roughly 50-60 games, would go through somewhere around 40. now multiply that by at least 9. then multiply that by the number of teams in D1 baseball, and it comes out to be.......very expensive.

I saw a story on doing away with aluminum bats years ago. The argument was that the ball comes off the bat much faster with aluminum than wood. The pitcher is most vulnerable to getting hit because he is still in his finishing motion after the pitch and doesn't have time to react. Like I said, years ago and I haven't seen any data showing pitchers getting injured because of it. But I'm sure it's out there.

im assuming they still used the bats that had a ton of pop, like the easton stealth. these composite bats now are no where near those.

I thought we had gone to composite bats, I was under the impression that was a NCAA thing but maybe it was something Monte Lee was trying. But seems like the aluminum bat sound has been magnified this year. Because of the sound, I was actually looking up NCAA bat requirements this weekend while watching our Duke game.
Don't know where I got this idea about composite batts but there was some conversation about several yrs ago.

Great question ! someone may have answered it. Aluminum bat technology in the last 5 or 6 years. They have clocked balls coming off of today’s aluminum bats at approximately 100 plus MPH. They started using aluminum bats to save money.
Teams started using aluminum bats due to economical reasons. Wooden bats break and cost money. To save that money teams started switching to aluminum bats. Technology of aluminum bats has created a safety issue because the ball come off of aluminum bats at 100 plus MPH.
Another reason for aluminum bats is more HR’s are hit and they create more offense.
It now is a safety issue. College and HS baseball ask bat manufacture less lively aluminum bats.

have exit velos of 100-110. so whats your point? the average college player is somewhere between 90-100, mostly leaning towards 90

I would think it to be a big disadvantage for the ones going to MLB. Not a lot of them ever make it of course but as a scout I would definitely want to see what my prospect could do with wood.

The bats are not aluminum, but are composites. Aluminum bats went out years ago.
