Just so I’m clear, football transfers are no big deal

because they weren’t “all in” and/or weren’t going to contribute to the team, and are not a reflection of recruiting or coaching.
But basketball transfers are indicative of poor recruiting and/or poor player development, and show that our basketball coaches don’t understand roster management.
Is that correct, TNet experts?

Basketball just got a new locker room with tv screens above each locker to display a cartoon image of each player.
I guess that was essential. Money well spent. Who made that decision?

Bball post are really not relevant to some Clemson fans until it has been proven that Clemson is serious about being good in basketball. In my opinion that left when Barnes and OP left. That’s just my opinion don’t mean any disrespect to any bball fans but seriously today there are people arguing over an OT win against Drake. Let that sink in! We are in a top tier bball conference and I would not have been surprised if we would have lost. Clemson just does not invest in bball. If they did fire Brownell who would we possibly hire to replace him. Just not thinking the head coaching job at Clemson is a huge get. I wish I was wrong and maybe to some I am way off base and that is fine but it’s all about results and it’s been the same mediocrity for years.

people overreact when a player transfers out. Very, very few of the kids that have transferred out in basketball or football have had a major impact anywhere else. Basketball has brought in good players through the portal, and football will as well. Football just recruits on the high school level far better, so they'll still try to focus there much more than the portal

you just pay to much attention to the rabble. People who know basketball understand the portal. Most are not upset we take transfers, but rather with not being what they think the program should be. Good win today. They need to close this month strong. This team has talent, they've just been awful in the last 5 minutes of close games.
As I've said in football, it's not so much coaching as players making plays. That's what football lacked this year. Brad didn't lose those games. Players played poorly down the stretch

Okay. But when we find ourselves saying “players played poorly down the stretch” fairly consistently for 12 years, at some point that has to fall on the head coach.
This is where a double standard helps the basketball coach. No way a football coach here lasts anywhere near 12 years with these lackluster results.

What percentage of the roster does a transfer each represent to each program? Did the transfers represent equal playing time at their respective positions? Does that make a difference? Also, who said football transfers don’t matter? More specifically who said football transfers don’t matter that also said basketball transfers do? Assuming you have no answer then I’ll check this off as another disingenuous thread from JK.

My point is that basketball transfers here trigger the anti-Brownell crowd and their ridiculous criticisms of him as a coach, whereas football transfers seem to never be a coaching problem.
I find the hypocrisy hilarious.

If you’re accusing folks of hypocrisy I think the onus is on you, the accuser, to offers some specifics. Who, exactly, complained about one but defended the other. Otherwise I will continue to assume you are trolling, as usual. Here is a fact though. Every scholarship basketball transfer represents 7.7% of the roster. Every football scholarship transfer represents 1.2% of the roster. Further adjusted for actual playing time it would be easy to make a credible argument that any given basketball transfer is more problematic than any given football transfer. But I don’t know any posters who have actually made the arguments that you are alleging. Many posters freak out at both. Many defend both. Any you are just trolling.

Honestly I get confused by you but never have responded. I am a Clemson fan. I never went there. I went to USC-S running rifles. My dad did and have loved them since a boy. With all that I didnt like the Brad way cause every year was a new 3 to 4 players. I couldnt get to know and grow with the team. At least with Purnell these guys got good every few years but you knew them. Football will get that way for me to im sure due to the new rules. Dabo will need to adjust. Free agency sucks.

I think it’s a more fair point for football than basketball due to the number of players on a team. If a basketball player transfers that’s about 10% of your team, if a football player does it’s roughly 1%. I understand your frustration from attacks against you and the basketball team, but it’s an apples to oranges comparison, two different sports, two different impacts, scholarships, etc.

I’m afraid you’re trying to explain this in linear fashion, when everybody knows that basketball must be understood circularly at the very least, and spherically is even better.
Only 5 guys are necessary to play basketball, since the same guys play both offense and defense. Football requires a minimum of 50-60 (NFL roster), + a squad to draw from in case of injury. But colleges cannot sign free agents in mid-year, so you need that 75-85, + a practice squad, to start each season.
Today Drake used 6 players to consume 225 minutes of playing time, with one more guy playing minimally. Nobody fouled out. So how many do they really need? Let the rest transfer, if anyone will take them!
Brownell has historically been different. He has tried to develop a 11- or 12-man rotation during non-conference play so that he would have more depth once we got into the ACC schedule. I think it has helped him steal a few conference wins during regular season play. However, when he is splitting time like that, he prioritizes the better defensive players, which is usually the grad transfer types instead of the freshmen with big upside. And that rotation hasn’t helped in the postseason at all.
So Omax and Lynn took their spherical objects to a place that wouldn’t penalize them for their defensive limitations, right? They got tired of playing <5 minutes per game.
This year We will see if we can somehow become better by not sharing so much of the clock (addition by subtraction) because we don’t have the skilled players to split the time. An 8-man rotation will probably kill us in conference play. However, we get beat every year by teams playing 6-8 players, so I guess it’s our turn to see just how good these 7 or 8 or 9 can be.
There. I’m done. I tried to use round logic for you, Judge, but I’m not sure I succeeded.

I agree that Brad’s desire in developing 10-12 players can backfire sometimes, as with Prosper and Kidd.
I think the philosophy is sound, since he is big on having a strong defense and playing tough D is tiring. The last thing you want is a team full of tired players who don’t have the energy to score or to finish out games.
However, guys certainly want to play, so I get why he tries to play a lot of guys. It should theoretically keep guys more interested and engaged, and thus happy. It isn’t likely to keep the four star guys like Prosper and Kidd happy though.
That’s one area that I would like to see Brad improve upon. If a guy can score, or brings a ton of energy, I’d like to see him get a few extra minutes even if his defense isn’t ideal. Hemenway, for example, seems to really energize us. He isn’t the defender that Chase Hunter is, but I feel that the net positive for the team is higher with Hemenway in the game based on his shooting and general basketball smarts. I don’t have any stats to back that up, and I am sure Brownell does, but that’s my perception. Just my $0.02.

Late 3 point shots as the clock runs down with the ball never going in the lane

Our basketball program seems to have a philosophy of relying heavily on transfers versus recruiting kids and developing them, which is what the football program does. I see the portal as a way to build depth, create stability, and in general supplement our recruiting and development. The portal should not be used to build a program, but used to support recruiting and as a counterbalance to injuries and players leaving.
Our basketball program appears to lean on the portal as a way of building the program your hours are football program doesn’t use the portal at all but should to help with depth, transfers, and injuries.

I don’t hate the football program at all.

What I do hate are the smug, borderline arrogant football fans here who pile on every other sport (including basketball) and are hypercritical of them, but seemingly have no ability to ever admit any issues with the football team.
They believe that the football team is perfect, Dabo is not to be questioned, and anyone who feels differently is a troll, a Coot, or hates the football program.

This is probably correct…but it’s due to the results on the field…I’m the arena…results matter…very few wanted Dabo hired…even fewer wanted to Keep him after year 2 when we were 6-6 and lost to USF in the mayo bowl…people were very pissed when we gave up 70 to WVU in the orange bowl…
Get over your self dude…our basketball team has been mediocre to bad for over 10 years … flashes of deceny but that’s the best descriptor possible…
We are all pulling for US and want US to be successful but let’s be honest…the only reason BB and you still have a job is because it’s just not that important to people who matter…then again, maybe that’s why y’all were hired to start with and why you can’t do better…nobody really cares that much about it…because if they did…you wouldn’t still be around and neither would this staff!!! It kinda goes hand in hand Iah!!! In other words, be grateful that no one really cares because you still have a job and stop trying to cut off the hand that feeds you!!!

I said something slightly critical, but obvious about the football program recently and got absolutely reamed. Hopefully Dabo gets things in order, he's obviously shown he can.
