Can we get a "live" Tiger mascot?

Jul 17, 2012, 11:18 PM

A few days ago it was discussed what we would name a live Tiger mascot if we had one..."Howard" & "Danny" were proposed...

So, has this ever been seriously considered? If not, why not? The way I see it an "endowment fund" could be created for the costs...

Here is an interesting article on the subject that dicusses costs, obstacles, etc. from MU:

http://www.columbiamissourian.com/stories/2010/01/27/todays-question-should-mu-consider-brining-live-tiger-campus-home-football-games/

We should do this - it would be the shizzle having a gameday run down the hill lead by a live Tiger similar to how Colorado's handlers run with the Buffalo...

Any backers?

I can read the Greenville News now...

Jul 17, 2012, 11:34 PM

"14 people attacked by live tiger at Clemson vs Furman game."

No, seriously, I like the idea of having a live tiger mascot, maybe not running down the hill though--it would be awesome, but seems a bit risky. Except if we let the tiger roam free near the visitor's locker room...

No live tigers

Jul 17, 2012, 11:38 PM

No. As opposed to domesticated animals, tigers are not. Also, if they were everywhere in the wild then it would be cool to have one on the sidelines. Since they are endangered, no frigging way.

Go on line & check out LSU Mike's habitat. Seeif you don't

Jul 17, 2012, 11:57 PM

We could use the funds for better purposes and you must not have much experience with ALAC and Animal Welfare Protocols and university vets.

Running down the Hill should be enough...We already have

the most exciting 25 seconds...why risk it all for a couple more?

It would be a heck of a lot better than a "dead" one!

Jul 17, 2012, 11:46 PM

That was hard not to pass on... I agree a 'real' one would be cool for the fans, but not so fun for the tiger itself.

Re: It would be a heck of a lot better than a "dead" one!

Jul 18, 2012, 12:06 AM

Having spent most of my life inthe wildlife field,I can truthfully say.I have seen some tigers in captivity that would be a #### of a lot better off with our university taking care of them!

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dead ones are less expensive and pose no threat to the

handlers. Food is at a minimum.

Tiger/Terrier

OK Tiger99and00 - you're elected to get this thing started!

Jul 18, 2012, 12:16 AM

Get in touch with Zack Mills - Tiger mascot late 70's - he's a well known vet. His daughter is at Clemson now. I'll donate!

Let us know when you start.....

Jul 18, 2012, 12:26 PM

Because the rational amongst us will exhaust every possible manner of making sure it doesn't happen....money, bad publicity, haranging members of the BOT, lawsuits,---whatever it takes.

This is a horrible, horrible idea. I can only hope you folks are joking about it.

Re: Can we get a "live" Tiger mascot?

Jul 18, 2012, 6:13 AM

Yea,we need to compete with the chickens and the Dawgs!
And lets not forget the horse the Seminole chief rides on.
Maybe Bama could get a real elephant!
And Auburn could be the only school in the country with two mascots( a war eagle and a tiger)
Does Pitt have a panther? If not they need one.
I know plenty of places where Maryland can snap( get it ) up a turtle out of the wild.
N.C.State could get a german u-boat( they traveled in wolfpacks).
No, I am not a backer, but I had fun coming up with these suggestions.
Now if only I could get a gun and go shoot that stupid little leprechaun.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Do you really think you could run a live tiger down

Jul 18, 2012, 6:36 AM

the hill on a leash? Geez. Can not even phathom how dangerous that is.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It would be reat to see a Live tiger absolutely...

Jul 18, 2012, 7:24 AM

tear in to a chicken at the 50 yard line.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Only if I can feed it the annoying little ####...

that cries and kicks my seat at seemingly every event....

Seems like a win-win.

Re: Can we get a "live" Tiger mascot?

Jul 18, 2012, 7:33 AM

It would be awesome but I would rather the Millions that we would spend on this captive animal go towards protecting the ones in the Wild.

Exotic animals shouldn't be kept for this reason.

Jul 18, 2012, 7:35 AM

It would help perpetuate a pretty serious issue we have in the US regarding private ownership:

http://www.theelephantinthelivingroom.com/

IMO, this is an awful idea.

Re: Can we get a "live" Tiger mascot?

Jul 18, 2012, 8:03 AM

As much as I love seeing tigers in person, and as beautiful as those animals are, I would not support Clemson getting a live mascot.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Think the stress on Tiger would be too much...

Jul 18, 2012, 8:10 AM

Let them roam in the wold where they belong...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

maybe we should just do this.....

I see the coots mascots on a chicken truck headed to the slaughter house on sunset blv all the time. They must be hard on their mascots:)

Re: That's it! A Chicken Truck

Jul 18, 2012, 10:17 AM

Just get a little ol' truck, fix it up with chicken cages and filled with stuffed chickens (no feeding or cleanup needed). I would laugh my backside off each time I saw it on gamedays, parades, etc. Plus, think of the media coverage we'd get for how far we'd go to show hatred of the dirt-peckers.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Chicken-Killin I hate them dirt pecking birds (except on a plate...)

Re: That's it! A Chicken Truck

Jul 18, 2012, 11:27 AM

It would take a B I G truck. A litttle oL truck couldn't come close to showing my hated of the dirtpeckers.

why not get a couple of these? Coach Sweeney or Coach Morris can keep them in thier offices...maybe the players can take turns caring for it :)
