Why did Dabo go for 2 points on our last TD. We were up by 4 so

OSU would have had to score a TD to win. The only thing I can think of is the kicker is unreliable and if OSU scored a TD it would be on the kickers shoulders to win it. If they missed the extra point we may end up going to overtime.
Anyone else have a different opinion??
Great Win Tigers!

In my eyes it was about a potential missed XP.***

^^^ This ^^^ Put pressure on the kicker. No downside.

Bigger question is why *didn’t* OSU go for two earlier?

Force the kicker to make the xp. Zero reason to kick and go up 5.

Well, if you go up by 4 because of a missed 2 point conversion and they score a td and extra point almost immediately, then a fg only ties the game.
I don't think the 2 pt conversion attempt was worth burning a time out.

OSU needed a TD either way

the difference in a 4 point lead and a 5 point lead is insignificant. Getting it to a 6 point lead at least forces them to make the XP to take the lead.
If it was early in the game, you just take the 5 point lead and let the game play out. Later in the game, like this was, you go by football math 101 and go for 2.

being up 4 and being up 5 makes no difference. By getting the conversion, it ensured OSU would have to score a TD and get the PAT to win.

Yes,OSU should have gone for two after their last TD. that way if we kicked a field goal it would have been for the tie. I am glad they didn’t and it didn’t matter anyway because we scored a TD. Great game by the Tigers.

Just the minuscule chance of a missed XP

There wasn’t enough time left for the math after OSU potentially scoring to matter.
The people I watched with celebrated the two pointer vigorously but I was like it really doesn’t matter

I was sweating they might intercept a pass or recover a fumble and then run it back for a two point conversion making our 4 point lead a two point lead at 27 - 25.....that would set up OSU being able to win it with a field goal.....glad it worked out for us......Go Tigers!!!!

Also, it is possible OSU could have kicked two field goals and won. Unlikely but possible.

Dabo is a numbers guy and did mention after the game that Clemson scored 29 points in its 29th straight win.

You go up by 5 you have no chance at all to tie
Dec 29, 2019, 9:31 AM

You go up 6 it’s possible for an xtra point miss or block. It just doesn’t make sense to only go up 5. The only downside would be if we threw a pick or fumbled and they return it for 2 pts.
