Leave it to a Republican sycophant to threaten
Feb 26, 2019, 7:25 PM
|
|
a witness on the eve of his testimony before congress. Suggesting that someone is going to provide Cohen's wife with compromising information that would hurt Cohen. That's a threat, and it's witness tampering.
Matt Gaetz (R) is a very delusional and dangerous man.
Matt Gaetz ? Verified account z More Hey @MichaelCohen212 - Do your wife & father-in-law know about your girlfriends? Maybe tonight would be a good time for that chat. I wonder if she’ll remain faithful when you’re in prison. She’s about to learn a lot...
The best response to the tweet was from this guy:
Ken White, a criminal defense attorney at Brown, White, and Osborn LLP, wrote, "Dear Representative @mattgaetz .... are you represented by federal criminal defense counsel?"
"It sure seems like you're threatening Michael Cohen that if he testifies before Congress you, or people aligned with you, will bring out embarrassing details about him," White continued. "There's a whole bunch of obstruction statutes, sir, and if you're threatening to reveal embarrassing information to deter a witness from testifying before Congress, I think you need advice about whether you may be violating one or more of them."
The former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti also chimed in, writing, "This appears to be an attempt to intimidate a witness before he testifies before the House Oversight Committee tomorrow."

as evidenced by your inability to debate it in this thread.
Also, because something might be difficult to prove under the law doesn't mean the assertion is a stretch.
His comments were asinine.

They don't give a #### about sources, as evident by the fact that they don't provide any themselves.

me too, he is a despicable man. But if you really think he is dumb enough to get up in front of congress and lie again, then you really need to just go ahead and sit at the kiddy table.

I think you have to be even dumber to think Cohen is lying to Congress. That's moron status to believe that. That's one you may not want to admit in public. It would make you sound like a partisan hack or a moron.

do you remember why he lied in the first place? What reason would he have to risk lying again? Have you even thought this through?

What did Cohen lie to Congress about?

[ in reply to Re: Ah yes- Good point Balmer ] |

He testified that the Trump Tower Russia deal negotiations ended in Jan of 2016 when in fact they ended in July, 2016
This "convicted liar" was lying to protect Trump. He's going to prison for lying for Trump.
Lol...and now he's a convicted liar so you cant believe anything he says. Jesus tomatoes, the intellectual calisthenics Republicans have to go through in order to continue to protect Trump must be exhausting.

Trump has repeatedly lied under oath.
Feb 27, 2019, 10:20 AM
[ in reply to Ah yes- Good point Balmer ] |
|
One example: In the case where he sued a journalist who stated that he was not a billionaire. The Journalist won the case as Trump was unable to prove he was a billionaire.
If lying once is your standard, what does that say about Trump and his credibility? What does that say about you?

He did lie to Congress and is going to prison for it. But his credibility rests on corroboration. The FBI seized truckloads of files, recordings and evidence from Cohen a year.
He said he lied to Congress to protect his friend Trump. And he did lie. He has no reason to lie anymore....he has nothing to lose.

Question for you....how do you think our justice system....

would function if we didn't place any weight on testimony from people who are criminals or who have lied in the past?
Sure, if someone has lied in the past, their testimony has to have that taken into account and it perhaps cannot stand solely on its own...but it just can't be dismissed out of hand because one might not like what the witness has to say!

Any further testimony should be considered questionable at the very least. Interesting this morning that we are now hearing that Cohen has said that he has no direct knowledge of collusion between Trump and Russia, he just has suspicions.
Is that a lie or the truth....
