Opportunity knocked and SCAR decided to sleep in ...
Dec 6, 2013, 11:30 AM
|
|
Lost a win-able game against Georgia to put themselves behind the 8-ball in the SEC East.
Got help from Missouri both in a head-to-head match up against a back-up QB, and earlier with Mizzou knocking off the Dawgs.
Then they royally crapped the bed in Knoxville ... they "Clemson-ed, boy did they ever "Clemson". LOL!
... and so even though Florida and Tennessee were terrible and Georgia became a walking MASH unit, SCAR fans still had to watch as newcomer Mizzou did what SCAR fans have accomplished once in 20 something years. Take part in the SEC title game.
But the huge difference is ... with Auburn slipping in as the SEC West champs, there is a very, very good chance that the Missouri Tigers actually become the champions of the entire Southeastern Conference.
In two years, not two decades.
What ???
So, it all comes back down to "What has Steve Spurrier actually brought to SCAR?" He beats Clemson. Most SCAR fans have said that is not the goal.
But, that's all they've got.

True enough. Time to move on. SC beat three ten win teams, probably three BCS Bowl bound teams. Time to focus on Bama where Clemson gets one last chance to beat it's own BCS Bowl team.

Until we win against them it just sounds so juvenile
What has Spurrier done?
Did you ever think USC would have more back to back 11 win season than Clemson? they could have 3 this year
The fact they actually made an SEC champ game is big enough
They have the most wins over top 10 teams this year
We could go on forever but the point is they are doing all kinds of things that lead to championships and we are stuck with sorry ACC 10 wins as a given these days and 2 teams FSU and USC to challenge us for a decent game
Too many issues on the homefront in Tigertown to worry about them

First, stop with the "we" ... you are not a Clemson fan (talk about juvenile?!?) and then let it sink in that SCAR while having the best years in their history, still have nothing to show for it but bogus rings and Outback Bowl appearances and wins over Clemson. While their stated main priority ... winning the SEC remains as elusive as ever.

FSU also has 2. Clemson and Miami. Was UCLA in the top 10 when Stanford played them? If so they have 2. I believe Texas A&M was top 10 when Auburn beat them which would give them 2.
Simply saying they have the most doesn't really explain the situation.

they would vehemently profess that the ONLY REASON Clemson retained Bowden was becasue of his success against $CU insisting he never accomplished much else.
Steve Spurrier has effectively become a Tommy Bowden reincarnate less the morals, character and integrity.

And all they had to do was to beat Clemson for the 5th straight time to send them to the land of the irrelevant, knock them out of the top 10 and eliminate any chance they had. You can talk all the crap you want about South Carolina & their season if that takes the sting out of the loss for you but it means nothing.

Keep dreaming. Just because you want it that way does not give you the right to be willfully ignorant. Read a paper son, the two bowls vying for the Gamecocks are Cap One & Cotton.

Chances are pretty good that Clemson won't see a BCS bowl either, but even if they do everybody knows the only reason is due to the stupid bowl tie ins. South Carolina will end the year ranked higher than the Tigers.

hahahahahahahahahaha read this out loud. The irony is rich in this comment.
Pretty sure your little quote would be better used referring to Clemson backing into a possible Orange Bowl.
Also SEC bowls can take an east or west team if they work it out. Division does not matter, it usually just works that way because of travel. West can go to outback or cap one and east can go to cotton.

West team aka they work it out like you said, I'm assuming you understand they can't just willy nilly go where they want.
Also this isn't a discussion about OB choices, don't throw that red herring in there coot, I was specifically retorting to the above post.

Clemson and USuC fell short of completing most of their goals. Question is- which is a higher measurement of success...a bcs bowl or the palmetto bowl. For me it is the palmetto bowl.

But that's not really the issue.
It's not really either/or ... until one of us gets the conference title, the BCS Bowl and Palmetto Championship, it doesn't really matter.
We've had so many (60+) "Palmetto Bowl" titles and several full classes of our players have gone through school never losing to SCAR.
Meanwhile, SCAR fans are certainly free to gloat about the "Palmetto Bowl" with impunity elsewhere other than Tiger Net ...

The fact that Spurrier thought he got the most out of
Dec 6, 2013, 12:17 PM
|

this young of a team says a lot.
Do you guys really think that the BCS takes the best teams each year?
I have to ask this question again: What Clemson team from 1992-2013 would finish in the top 2 in the SEC?
And this question: What Clemson team in that span has finished the season in the Top 10 of every poll? Because that team in Columbia that hasn't accomplished anything, may do it 3 years in a row.
Again, I have respect for the Clemson football program, but some need to rethink some of your logic.

Actually as a Gamecock, I think Apextige made a fair assement of our season. We did not accomplish our major goals.
But... We did beat Clemson and salvaged some of our pride. As one of your former HCs said: "We can walk down the street with our head held high, and the tigers are back to hiding in the closet."
Wait till next year.... I hate that phrase, I had to say it a lot more times than you. So I can feel your pain, but it is sweeter to hear it than to say it!

And I take it with with the understanding of someone who has been there way to many times. Clemson will win again but as an old coot(both ways, age and loyalty) I just hope that we can keep it going...
I do feel that Clemson is facing an uphill battle, football is now all about Money and we lucked out several years ago. Maybe we will discuss it after the bowl season. Good luck in your bowl, two state teams in the top 10 would be a great.

Only ,1 team per year accomplished the ultimate goal after that it is levels of success.
Beating gt consecutively is improvement, 10 games is improvement, not losing to really over matched teams is an improvement. All these I believe can be used to measure success.
As far add the chest pumping, what can you do? Too many fans of all schools seem to put an overwhelming amount of self worth into a football game they have no impact on for the most part.
Any other year a Bcs birth would be more of an achievement, but I personally think breaking a 4 win streak is more important. The athletic department and swafford may disagree.

So tell me, how are you at the Top End of the conference, if you can't crack BCS? And play in one SECCG in 21 years competeing?
Healthy brains are overrated, anyway. You appear to not be using yours.

I watched as South Carolina baseball knocked on the door of a championship for years but they kept going in the right direction and kept beating Clemson like the football team and low and behold they won two in a row. I think I would quit poking them because that is what makes a South Carolina fan relentless when they win.

they were being "poked" ... think about it.
They are being "poked" because they are trolling on Tiger Net.
We don't get to poke them on FGF. It's not allowed (and it certainly should not be allowed).

"Steve Spurrier is a Tommy Bowden"

I keep seeing this posted. When did Bowden ever have the success Spurrier has had.
Why are you keeping Dabo if he has performed worse than lowly Spurrier?

yeah - the UT loss is the problem. That game should have been won by USC. UT exploited a defense that was vulnerable to the run at times this year (as Georgia did in their victory against USC). Still completely miffed why Dabo did not use RM to run the ball against gamecocks. The backup QB for Missouri is actually very good (Mauck) so I do not think that excuse holds much merit - statistically there is not a large drop off between mauck and first string qb at Mizzou. SEC championship game going to be a great one though. Can we say that about FSU - Duke?

Well, if they "suck" then clemson should have beaten them right? If I remember correctly, the score was 31-17 USC. So where does that leave the tigers, since they lost badly to an opponent who you say "sucks"? Please think about your facts in the last post - I would understand if you want to erase that comment and move on.

No, you still suck. And you always will.
No amount of wasted hours on your part on this message board will ever change that.
Period.
Now...isn't it time for you to get ready for your shift at Burger King?

I'm sure it's sweet enough for most Gamecock fans, knowing that they now own the Tigers!

I'm sure it's sweet to have such a lack of balls that you put "Bengal" in your handle to imply that you're a Tiger fan, when everyone knows that you're not.
Why not use a Coot handle --- it's not like you'll be banned.
Oh, that's right. You're nutless, just like your father probably taught you to be.
