Scenario:
TCU goes 13-0
Michigan loses to OSU
USC goes 10-2
Tennessee goes 11-1
#1 - Georgia
#2 - Ohio State
#3 - TCU
#4 - ?
Do we really get in over Tennessee when it comes down to it? Is our resume enough to overcome the eye test comparison between us and Tennessee?

Maybe. History says yes. This 538 model say yes. But I don't think we do. Not this year.

We've got to hope that (mediocre) TCU gets beaten in Big 12 championship game.
Without that, we're out (regardless of if we blow everyone out) of CFP conversation.
With Tennessee out of the SEC Championship game, they will not lose another game and will finish the regular season at 11-1.
TENN isn't great; they have had one truly outstanding win ... at-home nail biter against Bama.
Their other wins look good at the moment, but in retrospect those other wins weren't terribly impressive.
Eked out wins against mediocre Pitt and U of FL teams.
Beat Kentucky after QB Will Levis had gotten injured and then lost his mojo.
TENN beat LSU before LSU had stopped getting in their own way.
Despite it all, TENN has played a better 'eye candy' schedule than us.
In the scenario that we win big in our last 3 games and finish 12-1, it's hard to see the CFP committee overlooking their chance to elevate an 11-1 Tennessee team back to their 1990's status as an 'elite' program.

They blew LSU out of their own stadium. Good luck convincing the CFP committee it's not a great win.

We do not get in unless TCU eliminates themselves in the Conference Championship AND USC eliminates themselves by dropping another And Michigan loses by a bunch at OSU.
Ga, OISU, & Tenn are in. We are fourth with the above help.

Yes, a 12-1 Clemson ACC Champ (with 6 appearances of last 7 CFP's including 2 national titles) gets in over an 11-1 Tennessee from a conference who already has a team in the playoff (a national playoff which only allows 4 teams to compete).

Over the last 4 years, ALA and GA have both been in the playoffs twice from the same conference. Since the committee's goal is to put the 4 best teams in the playoffs, GA & TN will most likely both represent the SEC again unless something crazy happens. I don't think the ACC has proven strong enough to have their champion represented this year unless there are some upsets that help them out.
