Tell me if you agree with this regarding Clowney and agents

Jul 24, 2013, 12:17 PM

This is all my cynical opinion. Discuss.

1) I absolutely believe Clowney has been is contact with agents in violation of NCAA rules.

2) I absolutely believe UCS and the NCAA either knows this or is willfully ignoring obvious evidence of it.

So, what do you think about Clemson football?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hey, this is my one and only post on the topic...

Jul 24, 2013, 12:21 PM

I am tired of hearing about it too.

But this situation is blatantly obvious and needs to be exposed.

Can you share proof or reasoning versus just a blind statement?

Per your question... I disagree.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Simply talking to an agent is NOT an NCAA violation....

Jul 24, 2013, 12:30 PM

but if he accepted anything form the agent (a meal at Ruth's Chris for example), that would be a clear violation.

His own instagram photos were somewhat incriminating but I suspect it would be fairly simple to determine who paid for the cost of his meal at Ruth's Chris.

I have eaten there several times and with drinks and dessert, the bill is generally upwards of $100 per person which, by all accounts, would be considered a little steep for any college student.

I think the rule is that he can talk to anybody but, he can't except any money or gifts. Unless he was being followed, filmed, and recorded, it would be hard to prove that he excepted money or gifts. And none of this is going to happen before the end of FB season. So all teams on the coots schedule will face the clown one more time. For me personally, I want us to beat usuc with that clown playing. We don't want to hear them say we couldn't have beat them with their clown, if he was suspended from the team.

so, you are saying he did get $, or gifts, or anything else

Jul 24, 2013, 7:26 PM

that the ordinary college student didn't get from jay-z! because if he "except"ed them it COULD mean he didn't take them, however, if he "accept"ed them, it means he did.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There's no rule stating that you can't talk to an agent

Jul 24, 2013, 12:48 PM

Reggie Bush had violations because he received benefits from the agency. These violations didn't come up until AFTER the season ended. If there are any violations with Clowney they won't be brought to light until after this season when he's long gone. The NCAA is too slow to act unless a former coach violated young boys to satisfy his pedophilia.

Jul 24, 2013, 1:44 PM

If Jay Z truly does want Clowney to sign with his agency (why wouldn't he) For a big name player, I think it would be against his interest to give him benefits. Losing his last season in college would take away a lot of positive hype and replace it with negative hype, which would affect his endorsement deals if/when he does sign.

Plus if Clowney does sign with Jay Z it won't be because he bought him a steak dinner, it would probably be more because he's Jay Z.

Only Violation I see as possible, maybe even likely is that they he has agreed to be represented by them after he leaves, but that one would be impossible for the NCAA to prove

Re: Tell me if you agree with this regarding Clowney and agents

Jul 24, 2013, 3:46 PM

Having contact with an agent is not a violation of NCAA rules. It's not even a violation to negotiate for representation while you're still playing. You can't complete those negotiations, but you can sure start.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So far, no violation

Jul 24, 2013, 3:50 PM

Just talking to an agent isn't a violation (as many others have pointed out) and I highly doubt if any violations occurred that they would be a.) traceable or b.) completely investigated by the NCAA until after the season. Which is good because I want there to be 0 excuses for the coots to have when we beat them in November

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

nope

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Didn't the NFL install a rule about agents and their runners

Jul 25, 2013, 9:03 AM

interfering with non-NFL eligible athletes? I thought it was a situation where the agent could be banned from negotiating with the NFL or some such. It's the NFL's way of trying to police themselves and protect their "farm system".

So in light of this, it would be very much against Jay-Z or any other agent's interest to offer Clowney benefits. Regarding small items like a meal or some such, I think school's are constantly asking players about these types of things so they can self-report and have the player pay back such items.

Just my $0.03.

SEC schools policing themselves... Novel concept.***
