Until someone shows the NCAA has allowed over 85 scholarships in 2022, we do not have 10 scholarships. Currently we have none unless others have told coaches they are leaving.

Then why did we offer a 3 star Wade Woodaz this weekend? Why does Andre Greene Jr still have an open offer? I don't know if we have 10 scholarships left, but the numbers that I had heard thrown out earlier in the year was around 20 or a little more.

We obviously have some available or we would not be offering a 3 star safety a spot when we already have 2 4* safety commits. That sure is heck not a person that we are going to oversign, and the fact that we offered him at all signals that we are not short on scholarships at the moment.

I'm not sure why some people seem to accuse anybody that is critical of the players or coaches as coots. I think that the coaching staff and coaches do well as a whole, but like all of us make questionable decisions. Most of them are only obvious in hindsight and many of the counterpoints would probably worsen the situation. However, bouncing thoughts and opinions around allows us to develop a better understanding of both sides. Calling fellow Clemson fans coots, on the other hand, accomplishes nothing. Sure there might be a few trolls, but the majority of the ones ridiculed on here are Clemson fans like you and I.

Did you skip the part about coaches learning who would leave early? Just saying, we do not know the exact number but based on available scholarships the numbers are tight. You can’t just project 10 will leave to make room and Dabo isn’t running people off.

Quick question for you, how many scholarships do we have available? How many seniors are leaving? If you don’t know then how do you know we have space for 10 more commits? Or are you just a Lazy buffoon trying to stir up trouble without any facts?

To give a thought on the reason, I believe that 13 is only slightly behind what we would normally expect. We normally feel better about some of the undecideds out there this time of year, but there are normally some commitments that come in after these young men finish there HS seasons. We have a few offers out where the decision will affect whether other offers are extended. As for now, we are not making offers to lesser talented guys.

Let's wait and see what happens after the early signing period. We will probably then pick up some guys that have been told that we are interested but want to see what happens. Many recruits are turned off by being a back up plan, but others appreciate the honesty. A few scholarships may fall to walk ons, but those will probably come from Spring transfers or unexpected young men leaving early.

Really only 1 undecided that we have a shot at signing of any import is Greene(rather had the DutchFork kid but we F ed that up 9 ways to Sunday)Maybe TE's brother. After that what, we just start offering leftovers and then crank up the spin machines. It would appear the staff took sabbatical from all things football in 2021. Sabbatical is an overstatement, but there is definitely a half-in, half-out vibe collectively with the football program in 2021.

Please trust the Coach that has led Clemson to 6 straight playoffs. He knows what he is doing. He will fix this offense and he will bring in players that will be big time in the future.

So based on my country math

Nov 14, 2021, 3:40 PM

Only 10 seniors that count to the 85 scholly limit (not counting those using the COVID waiver, b/c they do not count against the limit, nor will anyone that chooses to do so based on my understanding)

4 more w/ the guys that opted to go into transfer portal

So based on that, thats 14 open scholly spots and currently have 13 guys committed to Clemson. So only leaves 1 scholarship. Now, based on what I've seen on the scholarship breakdown, we could have more if we choose not to renew the scholarships for the 3 listed juniors that were prior walk-on & given scholly (D. Swinney, May, Donnelly - as in those cases scholarships are typically for a year) or if they chose for D. Swinney, J. Venables, and T. Venables not to have them on scholly next year (b/c 1: pretty sure they'd still be able to afford school and 2: probably wouldn't be going anywhere considering that their dads are coaches). So that would give up to 4 open slots - 5 if both of those scenarios combined.

Now lets take a look at who/what is left to consider for scholarship:

RB - think is our biggest need in terms of depth. Trevor Etienne is biggest target & hopefully the coaches are working hard on this 1. Considering the other schools in play are RB-heavy compared to Clemson currently and given his brother's career here, I would hope that plays into Clemson's favor. Keith Adams Jr (son of former Tiger A-A LB) has a grayshirt offer (means he'd count as 2022 recruit but wouldn't join until the 2023 recruiting class).

DL - In the Top 5 for Perry and Curry (who are both highly rated). Also have offered Okunlola, who hasn't narrowed down to a top 5/10/etc yet. Given we've got 8 guys each for DE and DT next year, idk if we go w/ anyone else; plus someone pointed out awhile back that Perry/Curry are most likely heading elsewhere. Unless they choose to wait until Feb NSD and something major changes, don't bank on either of them. Okunlola would probably be most likely if we have room.

WR - Greene pledges this week & we're in Top 3. He was also in town yesterday so hopefully Clemson made best of it if getting him aboard is really a top priority. With Randall coming in, think he'd be a big get. Would most likely see D. Swinney or May reverting back to walk-on status if we get him to get the scholly count

OL/CB/LB/QB/K - got the recruiting gets there the coaches were looking to fill, plus other potential targets are committed or strongly leaning elsewhere. Only 1 still floating in this department (Cothran, LB from T.L. Hanna) would most likely be walk-on.

S - Filled by Covil and Sabb. Know Woodaz was offered over weekend, he's either walk-on if he comes or maybe gets scholly if they choose to make Donnelly's a 1-year-only deal.

So if you're wanting a big recruiting class, better be waiting til '23 or '24 b/c that's most likely when Coach Swinney & company need to be casting a pretty big net and hauling it in pretty loaded.

Re: So based on my country math

Nov 14, 2021, 6:09 PM

I just hope that we're not running potential offensive recruits off with this atrocious Offensive performance. Even defensive recruits may think twice before coming to Clemson. Even though we're top notch defensively the best recruits want to come to a program that is top 5 or top ten. Not a team out of the top 30.

It's like the last 6 years never existed

Nov 14, 2021, 6:35 PM

any recruit on offense with any ego (all of them) sees opportunity for a school that has produced big time offensively. You know, like the #1 QB recruit in the country who can't wait to get here

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It's like the last 6 years never existed

Nov 14, 2021, 8:20 PM

I know your an oletimer and I'm not far behind you. What you have to realize nowadays is these young recruits don't the same way of thinking that we did when we were their age. It's a "what can you do for me" attitude now. You can see this with the portal this year. Things are changing fast. It's not too late for Dabo to change but he was apparently wrong on some things this year. It's evident.
I notice you like to use sarcasm a lot. It seems to be your shtick. But this is serious what is happening this year. It's a fast slippery slope to mediocrity.

Do we expect any juniors to leave early? The only one that comes to my mind is Booth.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

hadn't heard any rumblings in that department

Nov 14, 2021, 6:49 PM

If Booth were to leave, that would be 2 CB's going out (assuming Goodrich doesn't use the COVID waiver for an extra year) with 3 coming in. Would give us 7 for next year - whole reason we ended up w/ 3 CB commits b/c we were thin going into this year thanks to Kendrick's dismissal in offseason. Figure they might see about converting one of the safeties to CB (would have 9 or 10 barring any departures) b/c any other CB targets have committed or heavy lean elsewhere.

Had assumed Ross was probably gone after this season to try & get the pro money due to the neck surgery & the nature of that whole deal. But given spending a big chunk of season playing slot instead of boundary and the QB/offensive woes, don't think that's a surefire decision.
