1. My buddy works on their video crew. He told me that the guy wouldn't sniff starting
2. Scar is well known for culling recruits and current players when they are not what was "expected"

.... knowing SOS will not honor a scholarship.
AND yes, I know it is only a one year (year to year) scholarship. But most coaches honor them for 4 years - the classy coaches do.

He won't be the last. They are already into oversigning for next year. Even with McEvoy leaving they still have two more commitments than they will have room for. I wouldn't be surprised to still see them sign close to the SEC max of 25 players and cut another 8 freshman and sophomores over the course of the season. They don't have enough juniors to make any moves there. They've cut around 14 players from that class to make room for current sophomores and freshmen.

From what i heard the dude isn't even close to D1 caliber. That being said....the staff at scar committed to him once they offered him a scholarship and education. I know this happens in college ball every once in a while, but they cull players on a whole other level

They've definitely taken it to a new level over the last few years - coincidentally their best ever. You have to hope it starts to bite them in the ### on the recruiting trail in years to come. Kids will take the risk of being cut to play at a storied program like Alabama. But, even under Spurrier, SC is no Alabama. It is also especially egregIous as Auburn and Florida institute four year scholarship policies. Saban says Alabama will do the same, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Yeah, SOS normally likes to make his shady cuts in the off season. But, with the NCAA scholarship reduction, they are going to be so over extended on offers that recruits (more specifically coaches) are gonna start asking a lot of questions if they don't free up some room. They've already burnt some kids on signing day by not managing the numbers better.

WISTV says Tanner had been suspended from team? NOT!
Aug 7, 2012, 8:33 PM
|
|
The article in The State trashpaper this weekend said there would be no suspension - no punishment. SOS himself essential said kids will be kids, and all kids drink. If he punished every kid who had a beer, no one would be available to play football.
What a JERK of a coach!?!?!
It does make you wonder if SOS reversed course and over-reacted. Seems like he is a blow-hard bully who either over-reacts or under-reacts or just blows smoke. USuC got what they deserve when they hired this JERK. They all knew he was a JERK. They just thought the JERK would win games. Well, it is not all about winning or losing. It is about HOW you win or lose that counts in life.

first off, cutting a player from one mistake unless its a major crime, is not a good move, everyone should be allowed a chance to redeem themself, bottom line is he is not good enough and there is not enough room for him which sucks for him if carolina recruited him

If we get a 2-star or 3-star recruit that sucks and is a criminal, would you want clemson to hold onto them? I don't think a recruitment is any sort of guarantee if the student can't behave.

1. It wasnt a dui 2. The kid was asked to transfer 3. The kid was not suspended as head coach let it be known he did not care about underage drinking
You dont cut kids because you evaluated wrong.

He did not get a DUI and he didn't get cut. He got a a driving after drinking, which means he was not over the legal limit, but because he was underage they have a law in NC that you can still be ticketed. He also was not cut, he chose to transfer. Did it before the school year started so he doesn't lose a year of eligibility. It was his choice. He knows the depth chart and wants to play. I wish him well.

any other state unless there is an exception you can find. Since when did you, Spurrier and other gamecock fans take on the belief that kids under 21 can drink and drive? Although sadly common, every one who drinks and drives, does so under the assumption they could be arrested. I'm not saying the kids a felon, but your school needs to take out the trash... starting with Spurlid and Mangus

That at this point last year McEvoy was thinking it would be him against an inexperienced Shaw coming into this season to see who would be starter. Before the DUI he had lost the 3rd string spot and wanted to actually get PT which looked promising with the QB position when committed, now not so much.

Strange considering this thread is taking one event and working without proof of Spurrier stripping him of a scholarship and stating it as if it was fact. Before you argue McEvoy said he decided to leave due to the depth chart and that he wanted to be a starting QB not ride the bench. Do you have any proof or just in spin cycle without evidence?

This board was mad bc of lack of punishment when he was arrested but now that he is gone it was too harsh of a punishment?
Then there is the "shoulda gotten rid of garcia earlier" comment but now if he was let go it is a bad move?
Make up your minds....

It is not about the punishment.
It is about Spurlid's hypocrisy. One minute he has a PSA about the underage drinking being against the law. The next minute he says boys will be boys and he is not going to punish a kid for breaking the law.
Hypocrisy!

Even though you have three years of eligibility left to learn the system and improve, you've been relegated to the bottom of the depth chart at QB from here on out. If you want to play the position we recruited you for and not sit on the bench twiddling your thumbs for the rest of your college career, I suggest you transfer.
Sincerely,
Old Ball Sack

It must be a sad world many of u guys live in. Living in the past and disrespecting another school for kicks. I come on here for news because I do hope u guys do well but its a rare find to actually read facts or real news on this site.

Once Connor Mitch gets to Columbia McEvoy was likely going to be the 5th best QB on the team. Why wouldn't he want to transfer at that point?
