Strength & Conditioning Question. Anyone.

Disclaimer: this is not a suggestion or commentary on what I would do. It's strictly a question because I don't know.
In pro sports, I have seen where teams have changed their entire S.S & C program after a year of having a ton of injuries. If they don't part ways with the main contributors they will have a change in philosophy. Some of the frequency in training might change, etc. Given the large number of walking or sometimes not walking wounded Clemson football had: "has anyone heard talk of the S.S. & C program changing"?
I didn't hear if it did: but do we have the same staff from the last few seasons or did it change recently(like last year or the year before and maybe I missed it)? Seems like we aren't as physical upfront and ready to get dirty/ugly in the trenches.
Again, for anyone that missed it earlier, not a suggestion. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything from Dabo about us changing gears in terms of S.S & C goes to help with the large number of injuries.
Could be we were just snake-bit! Or did we change something in terms of strength, speed and conditioning?

I don’t know how to relate a S and C program to number of injuries sustained or prevented. But I do know that Clemson’s strength and Conditioning program is of an Olympics level. The science behind the meal plan and workouts and equipment is unmatched.

I don’t know how to relate a S and C program to number of injuries sustained or prevented. But I do know that Clemson’s strength and Conditioning program is of an Olympics level. The science behind the meal plan and workouts and equipment is unmatched.
As I started with: "hope it doesn't read like criticism"! The how "I" relate to injuries was addressed in my initial post: "it is not uncommon for programs college and pro to look at the conditioning program as the culprit"! That's not a HillRockTiger thing!

I'm not sure if it had any impact on the football team's preseason training, but I know Joey Batson missed basically the entire summer for health reasons.
I also know that Tony Elliott took one of the S&C guys with him to UVA.
Also Ricky Sapp is coming on to work with Clemson S&C in some capacity starting this week I believe.
Batson being back losing one and gaining one in the group should provide some level of change.
I also don't understand your comment about lacking a physical nature in the trenches because even our injured and depleted D-line absolutely dominated most ever game we played this season.

It's time we put the "O" back in Offense, and by that I mean Osterine.
Just kidding, really just believe we were snake bit this year. And like others have said our nutrition tracking as well as athletic dynamics tracking is the best in the country.

Honestly if all of the other rules are now gone from college athletics, why can't we let players start using steroids again?
Maybe we should try to paint the rule as discriminatory.
A ban on steroids discriminates against small, weak athletes who are prone to injuries.

Should be legal, speeds recovery by aiding in rebuilding of muscle tissue. Actually I'd prefer that we (solely) found an effective way to mask it's use from any of the latest tests for PED use and it remain illegal. Under these circumstances, it would be a real advantage rather than legalizing it and helping every team-

SARMs are way too new and not enough research, testosterone and other compounds should be legal, HGH is one that all college football players should start cycling the moment they hit campus, HGH cycles take 6 months to show any kind of benefits and no PCT is needed. Especially with the world class physicians these kids have access to, they could be monitored and adjusted. No one cares that all NFL players do cycles in the off season to prepare for the rigorous amount of games and physicality they have to endure. And if a player gets “busted” there is no public shaming or stigma because of how brutal the sport is.

I think it was two fold. The Tigers were snake bit in a few instances and the NCAA changes reducing practice and contact time has also contributed to impacting the "physical/contact" conditioning. There has to be a happy median. I think the NCAA has swung too far on the limiting side and needs to tweek back the other way until the median is found.

I think so! The flip side of limiting contact in a contact sport is: "when it's live you don't know how to handle it"! The CTE crowd and end football enthuiast want limited contact and if this was the era we didn't know about concussions - I would agree. The "walk it off" generation incidents just keep biting year after year! The rules in football now are such; the players are as safe as they have ever been. Imagine a boxer "not sparing" and then going in the ring when "it's real"! It can't be a good thing!

It's a good question and one that has bothered me as well.
I'm old, and came up in a time when Vince Lombardi's philosophies held a lot of sway. As players we were taught that lack of conditioning leads to fatigue, which leads to sloppy technique, which leads to among other things increased injuries. So when I see a rash of injuries I can't help giving the S&C crew a little of the side-eye.
I don't know what today's philosophy is. I would add my own observation that improved short term wind and muscle power outpaces improved joint and ligament strength. In a rushed development program your own body just gains the ability to better injure itself, until the underlying structures gain strength. I wonder, did the late unpleasantness push our program into - unintentionally - flirting with this "coffin corner"? Just wondering.
But I do agree with what other posters have said about our strength and conditioning program being top notch. I have no doubt their knowledge is a lot deeper and more up-to-date than mine.
So I'm just hoping that either it was a fluke, or, if they're in the process of fixing something, they're just not talking about it much.

TigerRebel82 Thank you! That's all I was saying and I think some people took it somewhere "dark"! Not suggesting our staff isn't top-notch at all. I was mostly wondering if anyone knew if we did something different than we had in the past? Batson being out for some time probably didn't help anything! Thank you for that tidbit of info.
As you said TigerRebel82: sloppy conditioning leading to sloppy execution with leads to injury because of bad technique(can't do it right if you aren't in the right football shape). Mostly the question was geared toward the OL to be honest!

If you have ever done any weight lifting to gain strength, and muscle weight, then you know that it's a painful process, and most guys just won't put into it, what they want to get out of it bc it is a constant healing process from one day to the other, and the weak minded fail miserably bc they cheat themselves from getting the most out of their daily workouts!!! Pushing iron to get the maximum benefits ain't for pusssies, or momma's boys, it's for the hard core that fully understand that if there's no pain, there's no gain, and they're up for the challenge of working through the pain!!! Those types of weight lifters are easy to spot as soon as you see them, bc they look like weight lifting junkies!!!!
