Strange game

Our players and coaches gave amazing efforts last night but we just were not as good as Tennessee. Maybe we looked at the players they were missing and were overconfident, maybe we remembered how they got trashed by South Carolina but forgot how they beat Alabama, maybe they really were just better. For me there were 5 plays that made the difference. BT missed 3 field goals but I will give him the 55 yard miss so that is 2 plays. The 3rd was the failed fake field goal, great idea but Tennessee was ready. The other 2 were the really freshman mistakes Cade made just before the half, but in his defense their defense covered the receivers.

Here is what makes the game strange.
1. We ran 101 plays to their 66 which is unbelievable.
2. We had 484 yards on offense which was 79 more than our average.
3. Our defense only gave up 375 yards holding the Vols to 163 less than their pregame average.

Our numbers say we could have dominated but the reality is were just not the major player we wanted to be. Our recruiting this year will help and we will have to get better because Florida State, Miami and South Carolina will be better next year. Last night it just felt like we were beating on a door over and over but it just would not open. Cade has potential, but across the board, he has to mature and make better decisions, we have to get faster and better especially on pass blocking. It will happen.

Could not establish a run game at all which shut down the offense once on Tennessees side of the field . Could not score a TD which turned into 3 missed FG’s

Very discouraging to watch... You hit it on head.

Strange game... It appeared the Tennessee defense never really worried about us threatening to score no matter our position on the field.... The game reminded me of our win over Alabama in 2018. Were we that much better than Alabama? I don't think so. But the game last night looked similar. We were beaten in the trenches on both sides of the ball... I was not expecting that, although Tennessee has a very good offensive front as they have shown all year long.

True, BUT....the SAME issues reared their ugly head again last night:

1) Safeties getting burned over the top. That's happened a LOT this year. But Mickey Conn (safeties coach) is a good friend of Dabo, so I'm sure they're building a great culture, so it's OK I guess.

2) Offensive line is a heaping pile of garbage.

3) Streeter abandoned the run game. Again.
