Spurrier running his mouth again about Clemson

Mar 20, 2014, 7:58 PM

Spurrier on Clemson having countdown clocks in meeting rooms to next rivalry game: “I didn't realize we were that important."

Man i'm tired of him running his mouth.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pretty sure he says stuff like that when he rolls over in his sleep

Mar 20, 2014, 8:01 PM

Pretty tame by comparison. Oh btw pot meet kettle.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

For the first 40 years of my life, USuC wasn't that

Mar 20, 2014, 8:02 PM

important. I just grew up knowing that we owned them and they were the little brother in the state of South Carolina.

Never had to live through two years where we lost to them....in all my 40 years.

Now that Swinney has lost 5 in a row to the Cluckers, it suddenly has become important.

Exactly. We dominated on a high level for most of the last

century. Wins were expected and far more common than losses, but losing 5 in a row will certainly change that perspective.

It's kind of juvenile for head coaches to act like Sack does, but all in all it will make it all the more enjoyable when we beat them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Coot U has ALWAYS been that important

Mar 20, 2014, 8:12 PM [ in reply to For the first 40 years of my life, USuC wasn't that ]

Yeah, we owned them, and got prideful about it - forgetting that the game mattered. Treated it like it was ours no matter what. Face...meet floor.

I'm glad we are making them as important as they should be again. Maybe we will win it again now that we are.

"making them as important as they should be again"

Mar 20, 2014, 8:17 PM

I'm not arguing your stance but I'm curious - do you think the level of importance dropped somewhere along the line?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The level of importance drop? No

Mar 20, 2014, 8:23 PM

That Clemson had it's importance in PROPER perspective - that is the difference.

Dabo just has to pay it lip service...

Mar 20, 2014, 8:18 PM [ in reply to For the first 40 years of my life, USuC wasn't that ]

which is all the countdown clock is. Most Clemson fans seem willing to continue to lose to South Carolina so long as we win ten games.

I don't think that's true. I think he truly has ramped up

Mar 20, 2014, 8:23 PM

the value of that stated goal. I don't think it's contrived lip service at all.

And I think saying, "Most Clemson fans seem willing to continue to lose to South Carolina so long as we win ten games" is completely false. I think the losses to uSC are bothering Clemson fans more than anything. You may be getting a little confused by folks who don't want to gauge overall success solely on that game. Point being, it's horrible losing to them and completely unacceptable, but it doesn't invalidate 11 wins and top 10 finishes.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's lost five in a row and has the support

Mar 20, 2014, 8:49 PM

of the vast majority of Clemson fans. I'd estimate it over 85%. His seat isn't even warm, and there's zero indication that loss number six would do him in.

If it was as important as everyone pretends it is, he'd be gone already.

We have to keep something in mind here based on what Spurrier did when he go to Cluckville. He took all the "Beat Clemson" signs down and said it is just another gme and now Dabo puts up the clock...I think he needs to take it down since it will only drum up more pressure on the kids than here already is going into the next game.Just my two cents worth.

Well looking at coaches goals DABO has
Conference Division Title: CHECk, CHECK
Conference Champions: CHECK
BCS Bowl: CHECK
Rival victory: NOT YET

Mr. Spurlid I believe you have some catching up to do.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's is a valid point....

Mar 20, 2014, 8:15 PM

The c0cks use the SEC as an excuse, but when they hired OBS and decided to pay him a ton of cash, they didn't assume championships and BCS games would be non-existent.

While Dabo has had a rough run against them, his overall body of work is on par or greater than Sack's. And that's even considering Slurrier has been in the business for decades and just finished 9 seasons at uSC, while Dabo is only in his first 5 years as a Head Coach.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: That's is a valid point....

Mar 21, 2014, 12:26 AM

Most all football fans in this state, regardless of their loyalties, absolutely love Dabo. Just think about it! Polar opposite rival fan bases, who have nothing in common except blind and bitter hatred for each other, both eagerly support this young man as head football coach at Clemson. Anyone who can get those two groups to agree on anything should have a very bright political future someday! Senator Swinney? Governor Swinney? Dare we say it.....President Swinney?

I think the "clock" is stupid. All it does is give the Gamecocks more reason for which to ridicule us. Just wait till we lose again! As ESPN just announced - if we couldn't beat them with Watkins, Boyd, et al, why should we be able to beat them this year with an inexperienced group?

The SC game is THE most important game of the year, every year save a MNC or playoff game. ACC CG and bowl game just aren't as important as long as SC is owning the state

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They should have gotten clocks that count up

from the last time the Tigers won. Then you wouldn't have to reset the clocks this year.

Re: Spurrier running his mouth again about Clemson

First time Spurrier and I agree on something. They're not
that important. For years the Tigers beat them and couldn't
win the Acc. Now the Coots beats the Tigers and can't win
the Sec. Karma is tough on both sides. About the clocks,
for the past few years lots on Tigernet fussed that Dabo
didn't focus on the rivalry game. Now lots are fussing that
the clocks are up. We'll find out come November.

If people didn't plaster crap all over the internet, there wouldn't be any ammunition. Blame those who are taking pictures and putting it all over social media. Is USC that important? If no, why the clocks?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Spurrier is in a position to say whatever he likes...

Mar 21, 2014, 9:13 AM

when you've owned your rival for five years. He COULD say a lot more than he did - and it would probably still be fair.

As for the countdown clock, that is a very bad idea from a lot of angles. I don't know who came up with that. When you start to obsess like this, it makes the situation worse. We already have coaches and players tightening up like a sphinctor and doing uncharacteristic things when we play them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Firstly, I don't like the smug arsehole, but....

Mar 21, 2014, 9:16 AM

what do you expect him to say when asked that question?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"Clemson has been historically better than Carolina. That's pretty obvious." - Classof09

"No one knew we were overhyped until the season started." - Classof09

Re: Firstly, I don't like the smug arsehole, but....

Mar 21, 2014, 9:31 AM

ole red neck shane missing the point again. the coot game is our biggest rival, in state means even more and sure helps with in state recruiting. to say that it does not is not being truthful. does it mean more than winning the acc and a bcs bowl game? most true tiger fans would say yes. but along with beating us for 5 straight years they have also finished ahead of us in the polls. dabo knows the importance of the game and in the press tries to down play it but in private and with the team he places a huge amount of importance on winning the game(ex: the clock) and it makes our players play uptight and to play not to lose rather than win. play to win one game at a time. the most important is always the next one. never look that far ahead.
