Sooooh, you hit the Wando at 115

..thinking you have 2 and a half hours before you really have a shot to catch a few..but you go ahead cause you are here...by 515 you have made maybe 800 casts and NOT one fish...not one hit...not one swirl at your bait and THEN...a big spottail heads towards your topwater plug and you keep working it waiting on him to get there. He kills it! And immediately runs up in the grass and in 5 seconds it is over....But, it is only 515...high tide is about 6 maybe so you are good ...prime time until dark...Then, craaaaaack....Booooooommmm. Lightning!!!. A storm blows up in 2 or 3 minutes and you haul ### back to your truck but the storm is going as fast as you are. And your day is done!. THAT FRIENDS...is fishing....
Thank goodness I had a baseball game to listen to in the way home...

I've done pretty well with the reds but never have zeroed in on the trouts like some of ya'll do down there. One here and there but never more than a few at a time.
That can be some pretty big water when the chop is strong.

hit spinner baits, although I have caught a couple that way, and it is near impossible to work a top water or jerk bait properly when the wind is blowing 15 to 20////

Gotcha. I mostly throw paddle tail soft baits, Z-mans, etc., at the trout. Do ok some places. I always have top water lures with me but just need to get my confidence in them in saltwater. They always say early and late for the topwater. I am generally off the water at low light and dark conditions. Are you having success during mid-day hours with topwater?

Fishing tugaloo river area of Hartwell tomorrow and will take any tips you have Spud. Here lately when I think we should catch 20 each we catch 6 or 7. We plan on soft plastics in and around flat spawning areas but that is what we have been doing and we have only been doing ok. We should have no wind all day so at least I won’t be fighting the trolling motor.

When those big reds head towards the grass, its is very difficult to turn them as you know.

If they are not quite up to topwater, they may kill a fluke.***
