Some you TNetters amaze me with just how quickly you throw

Sep 12, 2015, 1:17 PM

somebody under the bus and how you flip flop from week to week.

Is it possible Clemson is younger and not as experienced or as good as many originally thought and is it possible App St was under estimated.

Auburn and FSU also struggling right now. I believe it'll be ok.

I just think it is dangerous to let a team like App St

Sep 12, 2015, 1:29 PM

Hang around. Without 2 penalty from App St it would be all even.

I underestimated our D coming into the season. This D is going to be awesome I vastly overestimated our O this year. I don't if it's a combo of play calling and execution or what it is. As far as App State being underestimated. I don't think that's what going on here. Our O just isn't that good at this point.

Isnt in a bit premature to judge the offense after 1 bad qtr

Sep 12, 2015, 1:30 PM

The offense looked great last week, albeit against overmatched competition. It's only natural that they are at least a little less successful against App State. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a bit surprised that they aren't moving the ball more effectively, and the numerous bad snaps are simply inexcusable.

However, even with the inefficient first quarter, it's way too soon to start labeling the offense as bad.

The offense...

Sep 12, 2015, 1:36 PM

I thought they looked mediocre last week vs a weak team. I thought we looked average at best on O. We looked slower as far as tempo. Yes I realize we put up some pts with Watson, but I didn't like what I saw with the play calling and how our OL at times looked a little weak. We looked pretty vanilla and predictable imho. This week isn't surprising me that much after what I saw last week. I think the O will get better as the season goes on, but it's not a good O at the moment. I absolutely love this D though. Venables is the man.

Re: The offense...

I can respect that opinion. I give the offense a little more credit than you, but I understand your reasoning. I think the accuracy and ability to read defenses of Deshaun will definitely make every unit on the offense look better because of his play. I would be surprised if you disagreed that our WR are definitely another major strength of our offense.

As far as our RB's go, we are fortunate to have a level of depth that is quite rare. On the flipside, even though Gallman has shown improvement, we clearly don't have a CJ Spiller or Andre Ellington type RB at the moment. I think Feaster will solve that next year.

The TE group is incredibly talented, but for whatever reason they haven't been able to put it all together the last couple years following the Michael Palmer, Dwayne Allen, Brandon Ford era. With the three freshman TE's, I fully expect to see the position group to improve throughout the year as they push Leggett and Seckinger for playing time.

It seems so redundant to say this, but we all knew that the OL would be the big question mark heading into the season. With four new primary starters and very few starts among the combined starting five, experience is going to be very important to the development of our offense. The offensive line is the one position group that requires the most communication, trust, and familiarity with your comrades. Talent is great, but there is no substitute for experience.

I actually think the OL did well last week considering their experience level. Because it was only Wofford it's easy to discount the success that they did have last week, but I think it's very important to note that although they may not have completely dominated in terms of physicality on every play, there were few blown assignments. That's a very good sign for a young group playing their first game together.

IMO, it's been blown assignments that have been a bigger problem in the recent past for our OL with the exception of short yardage running situations. The guys appear to understand the protection, and as their technique improves, their physicality should also improve. It's not a matter of our guys lacking the strength (can't be sure about Mitch Hyatt given his youth) as much as a breakdown of technique from time to time.

Watson's ability to get rid of the ball quickly will help to mask the shortcomings of the OL when they are beat physically in pass protection. It's the blown assignments that even the best QB's can rarely disguise.

It's for that very reason that I think that this year's offense will still be a strength to an extent. I don't see any way that they will match the level of Venables' unbelievably outstanding defense, but they should be able to put up enough points to compete with anyone (unlike last year after Watson went down).

The one area that concerns me most of all is definitely special teams. I think most of us diehards would probably agree with me there. We were definitely spoiled for years by Pinion and Zimmerman before him in the punt game, by Catanzaro in the kicking game, and by Pinion and Benton on kickoffs.

The greatness that was CJ Spiller and the speed of Jacoby Ford have left us so spoiled when it comes to the return game that I'm not sure how anyone will ever measure up to the glory days of 2009 when it almost seemed like an abnormality if there wasn't a return TD or great field position from teams kicking the ball out of bounds away from CJ.

Anyways, half time is over so my diatribe will come to an end.

Hopefully our offense will improve as much as we both hope and our defense will continue to give their best effort to put up numbers better than 2011 Alabama.

GO TIGERS!

Great post...

Sep 12, 2015, 3:11 PM

I think our O has the potential to be amazing if our OL would tighten it up ad if play calling was a touch better. I would definitely like to see the TE a touch more involved to loosen the opposing D up a touch. It's obvious we could have one of the best O's in the nation, but we are still figuring a lot out. I am thrilled we started with Wofford ad App State. Anyway, I agree with just about everything in your post. That was a good one.

From FSU's 1/2 yardlin. Or had 4 "almost (DW season ending) costly," pee-wee-esque snaps on CUs 1st 3 drives.

Almost had DW knocked out vs an inferior team. I don't trust this bast@rd at guard either. He'll let a guy through untouched to end Watson's career just to dip his filthy hands into the $95 billion dollar piggy bank that is the sports betting industry (some are trying to legalize so we can at least tax it)
