after the way we complained about him for the last 2 years.
We have savaged that young man, we have no right to expect any form of loyalty from a man we treated that way. But he's exiting with the same amount of class that he came in with.

I have pulled for DJ to have success on the field. His teammates and coaches have remained loyal to him and supported him through some really difficult times. Fans are fans. He doesn't owe fans anything but he does owe his coaches and teammates his loyalty. He could announce that he will enter his name into the portal after the bowl game. That would be the right thing to do.

DJ doesn't owe me anything but I think he does owe his coaches and teammates the bowl game as a back up.
He could let it be known that he is going into the portal and probably even have his destination worked out but still put his name in after the orange bowl to make it official. It wouldn't be like everyone else is doing it, but Clemson is supposed to be different/better.

Not arguing with you, but curious what your position is: Do you think he should travel with the team to Miami? Or should he move on?
Dabo talked ad nauseum about what a "great leader" he was, so on and so forth. DJ also said he was "committed to the team through the bowl season"......In my book, a "leader" would travel with the team irregardless of the portal declaration.....but maybe I'm just old school and don't understand the modern definition of leadership or loyalty in the NIL/Transfer Portal era.
Again, that's just my $0.02 worth, but your opinion may be different.

You go to college supposedly to prepare you for your career. If the school you are attending does not offer what you need next then you go to another school. DJ came to school to play football to prepare himself for the NFL, Clemson is no longer offering a DJU QB class so He has to move elsewhere to pursue his goal of NFL. Plus there are like 10 million people in the portal so you must make your intentions known.

Not taking as arguing at all. I like your perspective. If I was the coach, he wouldn't travel to Miami. The moment he entered the portal, he left the team and he is a valued former team mate. He is no longer a team leader, or team mate, just a former mate and friend.
I'm old school enough that I hate the portal. Unless there are circumstances that would cause harm to the athlete or the team, I don't think a player should leave the team that they've committed to (I'll tell you my kid's transfer story sometimes). NCAA changed that, and kids think differently than me, so that's the way it is.
"We love ya, hope you can find some good seats if you want to go to the game."
But that's just me.

I was hoping he would wait until after the bowl game to formally enter the portal. If he has done that then he could have traveled with the team and been the good teammate and backup on the sideline. I agree that once that formal announcement is made, it’s time to move on, for everyone, and if he was around at all it becomes a distraction.

Once a fellow makes a decision to leave the team it's time for them to go. Football is a business. In my business world I have had employees tell me they are leaving and then want to hang around for 30-45 days at their connivence. No way. Better to move on with what players/workers you have that are gonna be around in the future. Give the football players who have been riding the bench a chance to get experience that may/will help in the future.
No disrespect but DJ does not need to be part of the team. He has moved on. So has the fans.
