So NIL made it

Oct 31, 2021, 1:02 AM

okay for grown men/women to trash the kids that play for what is supposedly these adults favorite school?? What does money have to do with it? So I can go clown your kid who is bagging groceries at Ingles because he couldn't get into college? He's getting paid for bagging those groceries so it's fair game! Clowns

?? I don’t understand this post. Players and coaches have always been criticized for poor performance.

Players have rarely ever been publicly criticized to this extent and many on this board have recently defended themselves with this argument. "They get paid now so it's okay." Yes, coaches have always been openly criticized but this level of criticism towards players that can't even have a beer yet is a newer trend and imo classless. To discuss a players performance without being an ########, fine. To basically waste space by insulting these young men is not. If you need examples see below:

Player A played poorly today and I hope he can do better or we may need to make some changes = Normal/Okay

Player B socks a@@ and needs to go back to State C. Player X will take over next year. = Classless

It’s all rooted in jealousy. These kids are making more money than them and they resent it. That’s it period.

False equivalence. If your kid bagged groceries as bad as our millionaire "kid" on offense plays football, he would be unemployed. This is not the Special Olympics.

What is really tiresome is the constant holier-than-thou attempts at policing what other fans are allowed to say about adult athletes because of some twisted and misplaced paternalism. Everyone playing for Clemson can vote and is registered for the selective service. If you think they are "kids," you are just old.

Not a false equivalence at all. Yes the kid would get fired for being a horrible bagger. He however would not be made fun of by grown people. He would simply be replaced if there was a better option. This used to be a unwritten rule about college athletics. This is not something new created by snowflakes. I hate participation trophies and how soft our country has become. This is not misplaced paternalism as I understood this as even a teenager and young adult. This is not professional athletics and NIL doesn't change that. What this is happens to be is people, like you apparently, who think it's okay to verbally abuse a young person because your team isn't as good as you'd like them to be. Do I disagree with the accuracy of these comments? Not necessarily but I don't feel the need to put them in writing. Holier-than-thou, no. Not a piece of sh/t, yes. I'll take that.
Criticism is fine but there is a line. Feel free to say whatever you want and I am just as free to criticize you. Blasting kids on a message board can't do any good. It can do harm to recruiting. How did we get all these 4 and 5 stars the last several years? Because of culture and Clemson being different and family. Inappropriate comments about players do nothing but turn off recruits and further hurt the team's confidence. Go right ahead. It's your right I suppose but I also have the right to called you someone not worth the air that you breath for doing so. Have fun and hope it makes you feel better about yourself.

What is really tiresome is hearing from people who have never done one thing as a player or a coach tell all the players and coaches how it should be done.

Be careful, they are entitled to making themselves look stupid.

They are not "Kids", they are young men and women who have signed legally binding contracts and are responsible for their own actions and performance.

When they earn 6-digits while getting free education, housing, food, etc., Do they deserve to be treated like a TLaw, Wilkins, Kelly Bryant, TLaw, Spiller Boyd, etc. I dont think the get the same reprieve especially with the portal that they can leave tomorrow in!

Are you implying that the don't put as much effort into the program? Or that they just don't deserve your civility because they haven't played as well? Which one?

Odd list by the way. One of those names doesn't seem to fit your argument. And did we have two TLaws? Put down the bottle and go to bed.

NIL has nothing to do with, but money does; money paid to scholarships, IPTAY dues and prices for seats on the 40 yard line upper deck a grown man and woman pay top dollar for to see a 5 star player put on a performance worthy of the hype.
There are 3 ,and 4 star players, right now, playing on team with lesser talent that are putting up numbers that makes you wish that guy was our teams starter.
Now I do agree, to a point, that you should not trash the kid personally, but you have every right to trash his performance if he is not living up to his billing. But you should also criticize the coach for not benching him, and putting in his back-up.
But the thing that has irritated me ,and I am certain a few others tonight was the post game locker room of D.J.IMO, it showed a lack of maturity on his part, so defend that if you want to. Meanwhile he need to learn how to find open receivers and deliver passes that are catchable (dropped balls and wrong routes are a different matter) and how to read defenses, and how to quit throwing passes ,which are caught, by the guys wearing the other teams jersey's and returned for touchdowns.

DJU is 20. He is getting criticized over football. Big deal. It's the nature of big time college football. Get perspective. He is playing big time college football and is 20 and not 16. There are plenty of pro athletes about the same age too. Heck, Nathan Hale was 14 when he went to Yale. He was an officer in the Revolutionary War at 18. He was hung at 21 by the British as a spy You remember him, right?
