Coach Leggett needs another season, but those who keep

throwing out his resume as justification for keeping him need to understand that what he did 10 and 15 years ago doesnt matter. FSU FB held on to Bobby Bowden because of what he had done in the past. How has that worked for them? I like to look at the past 5 years as the "state" of a progam. Our record over the last 5 years has been average in the ACC. I believe we're 6th in ACC wins and winning percentage. In the last 5 years, UNC, UVA, and USuC have all passes us. Why? What are we doing wrong that they're doing right? UNC and UVA did nothing this year, but UVA made the CWS 2 of the last 4 seasons and 3 Supers in that time. UNC has made the CWS in 5 of the last 7 seasons. I dont want to talk about what the Coots have done. Again, I give Coach Leggett one more year, after that I'll be calling for his head.

I'm calling for his head now. I believe he overcoaches in ballgames and plays too much small ball. At some point, you have to prepare your players and let them play. However, his players don't appear to be well prepared for big games and make far too many costly fielding mistakes. They have a hard time getting the bat off their shoulder in pressure hitting situations. He recruits the state very poorly as only 9 on our current roster are from S.C. I noticed a couple of years ago that he had a total of six S.C. players on his roster, so he's improved a little in that regard. USC, on the other hand, currently has 18 players on their roster from S.C. I think the success we have had is in spite of Leggett, not because of him. JMO.

When we play the Coots, we're always one fundamental play

away from beating them. I thought we bunted too much the first game. Did anyone notice that Tanner bunted too. How ironic that the one late inning that someone got the leadoff man they scored when they decided NOT to bunt. You cant win games like that when youre giving up so many outs. When we bunted to Roth and he threw out Kieboom at 3rd, that was the difference in the game. How many bad bunts did the Coots have? How many did we have? Theyre fundamentally better and thats coaching. The big mistake in the second game was when Baum threw the ball that Wilkerson failed to block up, and our RF and 1B werent backing the throw up allowing the runner to egt to 3rd. The next batter hit a shot to right that I dont think he couldve scored on from 2nd. That costs us another run, and was the difference in the game. Again, one fundamental play away.

So making the CWS once in the last 6 years is okay with you?

Especially after missing the NCAAs in 08, and failing to make a Super in 11 and 12. You realize we had a team last year that was one of the best hitting teams in the country for average and had an ERA below 3.5 and we lost a home Regional after beng 2-0. We've lost 18 of our last 25 to our arch-rival. We've won the ACC once in the last forever. There, I think that cancels out 2010.

No Im Clemson grad and former Clemson athlete who is pissed

that so many people think all is well because Coach Leggett used to know how to win. He coaches the exact same every year. He never adjust his style to fit our teams. And I couldnt care less about my Tigerpulse. The fact is, most Clemson fans are just as stupid and delusional as Coots. We pretend like our athletics matter, but they dont. We act like USuC doesnt own us. They do right now. And until the fans and administration accept that, theings wont change. Youve got to recognize a problem before you can fix it.

Looking at whats hes trying to recruit now, Im wondering if hes adjusting and trying to get some guys who can pound the gaps. Hes targeting a different type of kid than what he normally does. He did make the CWS in 10. But 3 years in a row of not doing anything should get him out. If he produces next year then great.

We have made the CWS every 3rd or 4th season

it seems to me for the last 30 years.
We should be due again in '13 or '14. If we aren't back there by '15, then talk about it.
But just firing a really good, but not all-time great, coach b/c our neighbors are in an historic run will not automatically lead us to greatness.
