I believe it was about 40 yards, and the longest run of his Clemson career.
That run helped preserve our undefeated streak against the Hoos.

That would’ve been nowhere near his greatest run of his career.
Two I can think of immediately:
Crazy 3rd down conversion on game winning drive vs Uga in 1987…as a freshman.
73 yard TD run in Tallahassee in 1989 to close out a huge 1st half.

Yep. FSU DB had the angle and TA walked away from him.
Ran a 4.37 before his junior year. He was obsessed over getting faster. Worked with track coach. When asked about the 4.37 40, Ford said “I guess that’s ok. We thought he was fast enough already”.
He came to CU as an unheralded DB.

I can hear his voice now. “Seventy…three…yaaaaards..”
And if I’m not mistaken, the Wayne Simmons INT return in that same game was also seventy…three…yaaards.
That was one badasss team in 89. Could’ve won it all.

CJ is still the greatest tailback to ever wear the Paw.
CJ was literally unstoppable. His senior year at Clemson… was the only player in the country to score a TD in every single game. #2 ALL TIME in all purpose yardage in college football history.
If I had to rank them I’d go…
#1 CJ Spiller #2 Travis Etienne #3 Terry Allen #4 Raymond Priester
#5 you could go a lot of different ways. I’d probably lean towards James Davis but have no problems with subbing him out at #5 if anyone wishes.

Thunder was great but I feel AE is a little underrated. AE was very shifty and had some fantastic runs for his Tiger teams. I also really like Gallman. Dabo perfectly described him as a “violent runner”.

Tore ACL against UVA and tried to come back for Coot game. Played some fullback in the blowout.
Likewise, Ronald Williams would have went down as one of the all time greats if not for the knee injury.

Flowers, Flagler and Griffin all played in the NFL. Driver could get 4 yards on almost any carry but the other three were capable of taking it to the house but played behind Driver.

Certainly one of the best ever to play the position.
Ones I remember fondly….
TD run @ FSU TD vs Oklahoma.
Ones I hate… Injury vs UVA Getting barely tripped up on the final drive against Duke in 1989.
Without the injury, we’d be talking about him today in the same breath as any of our greatest.
Fun to watch!

is the most exciting game I ever attended personally.
Terry Allen's running on the game-winning drive had a lot to do with it.
He's at least in the top 3 for me, and maybe #1. I'm sure that's influenced by his NFL career, which I think was better than CJ's, and too early to tell how long ETN will last. Those would be my top 3.

Ok Here it is. Terry Allen was my all time favorite back until ETN. Both hit the hole like their hair was on fire. Only time I remember him fumbling was on the play he tore his ACL, I think at home against UVA.
He was quick in the hole, but at the same time if there was no way out, he would look to punish the tackler. Strong lower body much like ETN. Was not afraid to get you the tough yard. Though he had good speed and could bust one for 15-20, his top end was not quite there with ETN.
Had a great NFL career after two ACL tears.

often & loud that by halftime many around me, including me, couldn’t go to the RR or concessions b/c our lungs & chest muscles were exhausted.
The 80+ yd TD b/4 half was basically the game winner while D had to battle 2nd half to finalize the win.
It was 90*, humid and air was at a premium.

Terry Allen's Freshman Year

We're playing Georgia in 1987 with Brent Musberger on the call. Terry Allen's last run of the day. "Allen cuts away, Allen creates it, Allen for the corner..." If you don't have time to watch the whole game, watch the 4th quarter. You will see a great play by special teams, a spectacular play by our defense, and our offense grinding out the win.
