So after all the dust has settled on the South Carolina

Feb 27, 2016, 3:41 PM

Hiring of Muschamp, just how bad of a hire was he? Were they really down to their last choice with him?

Do any of you think that he can turn their program
Back around?

Personally, I hope he has the same
Success he had in Florida... Which was none!

Dust has not settled. We won't know until year 3.

Feb 27, 2016, 3:52 PM

That is typically when I believe a coach should be judged. The first two years are about installing your plan, getting in your players and establishing a good coaching staff, etc. I think by the end of year 3, we will know if he was a good hire or not.

He can be successful if he lets go of the reigns of all offensive coaching and lets the OC take care of that. Muschamp has proven he knows nothing about offense. So that entire duty falls in Hoke's lap.

I personally don't think he will succeed just based on the lower level of talent that Scar will have in comparison to Florida or even Auburn.

The only reason that Spurrier succeeded was because the SEC East was ridiculously weak during most of his time there and Clemson was still building it's program.

Exactly, and that is the truth that the coots refuse to believe.

I think it will be harder for him to recruit great talent to cootlumbia than it was at florida.

I agree. Scar will be much more of a difficult place for him to attract good talent to. Plus, he brought along many of the same coaches. Different place, same coaching, less talent will not equal a winner in my opinion.

I remember when Charlie Pell left us for Florida, he said "...he wouldn't have to recruit; there was so much talent in the state of Florida, blue chip prospects would come to him".

While Florida is still talent rich, there is a lot mire competition from both in state and out of state schools, however, it will be MUCH harder (IMHO) for Muschamp to recruit to SC than he was able to accomplish at UF.

With my 'Tiger orange blinders' on, I'm optimistic he will not be able to duplicate what Spurrier did.

Time will tell!

Whatever choice(s) you make makes you. Choose wisely.

Chump wanted that job like Sean Young wanted to be Catwoman.

in all reality what is there to really turn around? They had 3-4 good season under Spurrier
all while playing in an east division that was as down as it has been in 20+ seasons. They beat
us 5 times in a row but those wins against us featured a QB who had quit on us and his team(2010)
and two of the worst defenses(2011,2012) we have had in 15+ seasons. Face it there lauded
"Best Coach in Program history" finished his career averaging 8 wins a seasons. That is all
they will really ever be.....

IMO, if USUC had not offered WM the job as HC, then AU would have fired him within 2 more years. I think he knew that too, and jumped at the chance. I think Malzahn was thrilled to hear the news. Coots who actually understand the game (and there are not many), know full well that their program is in shambles and will not recover for 5-10 years. We might run out of fingers and toes to show them when counting the string of CLEMSON victories over the chickens.

It helps us if they're at least decent by generating some regional interest in the game when we play them. We're miles ahead of them at this point & likely to stay that way. Great time to be a Tiger.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I do believe they put their eggs in Herman's basket

Feb 27, 2016, 5:09 PM

and he took the basket, turned it upside down, and let all those embryonic chickens splatter to their deaths, which is exactly where Muschump will take the scar football program. After 3-9, including a loss to The Citadel, they are already on life support, Muschamp is just the Grim Reaper taking them to their final place of resting.

Chump was bad at UF, very bad at AU

Feb 27, 2016, 5:40 PM

He will get his paycheck, work hard to recruit some players but come up short again. He is just not a great coach. UF has a fertile recruiting area and he could not coach up his players. He was touted as the second coming at Auburn and his defense was terrible. He will not last long in Columbia with all the politics involved. He will blow up on and off the field. I give him three painful seasons and he will be fired. Maybe he will follow Steele after he is fired. They can both go to Michigan.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pretty sure he was actively politicking for the SC job.....

Feb 28, 2016, 8:45 AM

as he had worn out his welcome at AU after only one year and was afraid he was about to be jobless.

I can link 2 separate videos showing his own offensive linemen blocking each other . He may be a good defensive coordinator , but his head coaching record is bad and it lools like his hired staff doesn't exactly do a great job either .
As far as his recruiting chops and how hard he'll work on recruits that remains to be seen , for he is no longer at a Texas or a Florida that basically sign on name alone . Coot U is about to learn him some on the actual work you have to do to get quality athletes to sign on the dotted line .

I am still amazed they are paying him over 3 mill per year.

Feb 27, 2016, 9:03 PM

He had no other D-1 even halfway interested in hiring him, so you would think the coots could have gotten him for half that. My guess is, Muschamp knew they were getting desperate and went for the money grab.

Re: So after all the dust has settled on the South Carolina

At the end of the day fans are going to be gans and Coots are no different . Doesn't matter who they would've hired , could have brought Vince Lombardi's disembodied spirit back to don the headset , they just aren't a very talented football program right now .
Spurriet didn't put much work in after around the 2012 season where recruiting should've been it's strongest ever there . Couple that with the fact that academic non-qualifiers were hurting their classes , JUCO plug ins didn't seem to pan out and of course they had a lot of decootments along the way to where they are right now .
As a fanbase , I believe the successes they had from 2009-2013 got them in a mindset that they were a top tier CFB destination , but they weren't and of course they never were .
Poor Coots . They're a 3-6 win team again this season coming and they've placed faith in a coach who failed miserably at a school that has won 2 National Championships in the last 9 years .
Good luck , losers.

Cusschamp will get what he wanted. A golden parachute for retirement which is what all the coaches do when they go to USuCk. The best retirement package in the country.

Why are people so determined to definitively predict the future?

We have no idea how his tenure as coach at South Carolina will turn out. So anyone arguing he won't be successful is just as ignorant as the person arguing he will be successful.
