Ok so word on the street about the Sammy Watkins discipline
Jul 1, 2012, 9:48 PM
|

is that Dabo's lightest possible punishment is that he will miss the first half of the Auburn game.
also. this is the likely outcome based on 2 factors.
1) Sammy's handling of the situation. which Dabo has affirmed.
2) Turns out Sammy was covering for the other guy in the car.
Disclaimer - Street = a white friend of mine who has zero inside connection at Clemson.

Sammy was covering when weed was found on him and the soccer player, and he was the one with the pills in pocket.

Honestly shouldn't be suspended at all. A little weed never hurt anybody. Makes no sense. If it was alcohol it's a diff story but weed? C'mon man

But then again I believe it's OK to run a redlight late at night when there is no traffic. I don't because it's against the law.

fact that the poor decision that was made put the football program and the university in a negative light. Everyone knows the expectations of Dabo and if you embarrass the school and program you are going to have to pay a penalty.

It's not a matter of whether weed should be legal or not. The FACT is that it's NOT legal, and our society has a negative perception of it. It is against the rules for any college player, and he broke that rule. To not punish him at all would put us in the same category as South Carolina. Do we really want that kind of mojo?

One there are hundreds of college students that have the same cocktail on them as I write this. That still doesn't change the legality of the offence. That being said it is what it is he did it he owned it he needs to be punished and in the end half a game or the whole first game, Dabo needs to do something or we are just another USC. We need to have respect for our school as students, alumni, fans, Staff, and players. We represent Clemson and I don’t want Clemson to be known for drugs and law breakers like USC.

Nothing is mentioned in the police report about it either. It really pisses me off when people don't have their facts straight

He didn't by legal definition drive under the influence. You really want to be the coach that makes that argument.
"Alright guys, if you're going to smoke pot and drive make sure you stop after your second hit."

Just because he hit a curb in the middle of the night doesn't mean he was driving under the influence, there was no mention of it in the police report either.

Anything can happen when you drive high on pot.

Sitting at a stop sign waiting on the light to change has created many orphans. You know creeping around at night on pot the snails and turtles have no chance to get out of your way.
You could damage your eardrums from the music and god help a bag of Cheetoes and a Pepsi if you let a pothead get close to them.

no physical evidence saying he had, or ever has, (got a hard time believing he doesnt't) so innocent till proven otherwise last time I checked. DUI is certainly much more serious and I definitely do not condone it. That being said, I had my days a long time ago in high school, and I can assure you that driving after smoking weed is a #3!! of a lot safer than driving drunk. Again, not going to condone either at all, but it's the lesser of two evils.

I agree with your statement 1000%. If I were leaving my house with my family. I would much rather (if I had a choice of the two) be on the road with 10 drivers smoking Pot, than one driving after a 6 pack. But I don't think that is the debate here. Fact is, Sammy wasn't charged with driving under the influence of anything. And I don't think that his punishment should have anything to do with playing in a FB game. He wasn't playing FB when charged with possession of Pot. His punishment should be the same as anyone else's driving around on campus possessing illegal substances.

I don't understand everone saying weed is harmless. That is stupid. Been proven it is a gateway drug, Part of organized crime and is one reason that we have such a problem on the mexican border. If any of you had had a child harmed by a pothead you wouldn't think it was harmless. Illegal is illegal!

Its been proven a gateway drug by those who made it illegal. Also we have a problem on the Mexican border because it is illegal, not the opposite. The same thing happened with alcohol during prohibition.

and what do you mean harmed by a pothead? Like one came up and stole their bag of Doritios? The law is the reason for organized crime and is what is causing a problem on the border. Not the plant.

Weed is against the law - but so is triple digits on my bike, so I guess I can't throw too many stones here. Everyone gets their 'highs' in different ways.

My question is what of this coach speak can you believe given the Bellamy statements and result

probably. just seemed the comments versus the result were complete opposites. seems Dabo would be more aware of the kids body of work and potential issues with grades not that he could or should spell them out directly. just could have tempered his comments

Gateway? That is like saying vegetables are a gateway to junk food because one came before another and since junk food makes you fat it must be the natural vegetables fault for introducing food to begin with. That philosophy is ignorant. You either do something you because you want to or you don't. There is difference between root cause and sequential action. Someone doesn't do hard drugs because they smoked pot. They do hard drugs because it makes feel better and hide a deeper problem unrelated to marijuana. However it is illegal, but only if you get caught.

just because some arm-chair hypocrites or ridiculous rival fans think he should. He got punished, went through his public embarrassment, went beyond what he was supposed to do, and has been steadfast through the whole thing. It's really no-one else's business at this point. Unless he breaks anymore rules, let the kid play ball.
