Since It is Supper Time ( Old Southerners Call it That)

What is your favorite food for a meal. If you had one last meal, what would you want?

Mine is Thanksgiving meal with Turkey, cornbread dressing, English peas, Giblet gravy, sweet tater souffle, fresh made cranberry relish, yeast roll and pumpkin pie.

My grandmother's lasagna. She left the recipe when she went to her great reward but no one can quite make it the same way. Close second would be my great grandmother's biscuits, even my grandma couldnt replicate those.

My mother cooked everything from scratch. And never looked at a recipe. My wife's best friend is a great cook but cannot boil water w/o a recipe.

Making Biscuits is the perfection of combining just the right amount of science, art and love!

A good biscuit maker is a God given talent molded by repetition.

One of my Granny’s homemade summertime meals…deviled crab, shrimp salad, deviled eggs (made with Durkee’s sauce), along with her sweet tea and some home grown fresh maters.

Pot roast, liver nips (dumplings), fried sweet potatoes (sprinkled with sugar as they come out of the oil), with some sweet tea to wash it down with.

Cornbread with butter, syrup, and condensed milk poured on top for desert.

Mom’s fried steak, milk gravy and biscuits. My daughter makes a pretty good version of it but she makes rice and lima (not butter) beans instead of biscuits. She also uses cubed steak where Mom usually used round steak from the angus cow we raised and put in the freezer each year. My wife used to make it and she’s the one that eliminated the biscuits and she also doesn’t have the patience to get the gravy to turn out like Mom’s.

Very close second would be Mom’s chicken and dumplings and biscuits. Mom’s biscuits were the best. She also made muscadine jelly every summer that was great on hot buttered biscuits.

A New Years day feast of blackeyed peas, collards, ham or cube steak, mash potatoes and gravy optional, and cornbread would do me just fine. But I enjoy eating meal that anytime.

Now I'm hungry.

My Mother-in Laws, who has long ago went to rest, Chicken and Dumplings.
She also made a great Oyster Pie. My wife can't match her Mother on these two.
BTW, have to have green peas with those dumplings. Sweet Memories.

My grandmas cube steak, rice and gravy, mashed potatoes. She could make it with beef or venison and you couldn’t tell the difference. And always could cut it with a fork. She’s still alive but unable to cook anymore. I fix it here and there but it’ll never even be close to as good as hers.

Yall done got me wanting some cubed steak which I have not had in a long time. Especially with gravy and biscuit.

Mom used to fix it often. Until I got married after graduating from Clemson, we was so poor and cubed steak is the only beef we ever had, that I did not know there was any other cut of beef other than hamburger.

Chicken and dumplings that are rolled out flat on the kitchen table and hung on the chairs to dry. Once dry they will break up like thin ice, ah I remember it well.

Try rabbit dumplings, better than the chicken I think.

Fried chicken, rice & gravy, creamed corn, Mac & cheese and green beans with a cat head biscuit the way my grandma made when I was much younger. That was good eating back then.
