What a stupid correlation.
Over 80% of rural counties are red. Almost 100% of urban counties are blue. You know one of the biggest distinctions?
The blue counties have almost all the hospitals and 95% of the health services.
But that’s ok, draw imaginary distinctions between all Americans, just like certain politicians like to do. You can’t win arguments with science, so you have to invoke the primitive faith of “Covid deity frowns on you”. What’s next—a lunar eclipse?
And yes, I realize your info was published by Pseudo Scientific American. Don’t be fooled by the title they give themselves.

so why did death rates drop faster in blue areas after the vaccines became available?
more gullibility i guess?
In a detailed examination of data from Ohio and Florida, the National Bureau of Economic Research has found that “political affiliation has emerged as a potential risk factor for COVID-19,” and that significantly more Republicans than Democrats have died from the virus since the introduction of vaccines in early 2021 to protect against the disease.
Post- vaccines, the excess death rate gap between Republicans and Democrats widened from 1.6 pp (22% of the Democrat excess death rate) to 10.4 pp (153% of the Democrat excess death rate). The gap in excess death rates between Republicans and Democrats is concentrated in counties with low vaccination rates and only materializes after vaccines became widely available.

Looking at data by percentages is dangerous.
Jan 22, 2023, 9:38 AM

Percentages wear blinders in an argument. If 1 person died in a population of 100, that's one percent. If 9 people died in a population of 1000, that's a lower percent bit 9x the number of deaths.
Also, wear vaccines distributed to rural areas as fast as they were in urban areas? Access is a variable, as well.

Second of all, there is a direct correlation between death rate and your proximity to a hospital. And republican counties are on average significantly more rural than democrat counties.
Also, there seems to be pretty good data that underlying co-morbidities like obesity, diabetes, and smoking are highly correlated to death rates. And republicans counties have more of that.
But what you cannot find is any data that proves masks slow transmission of Covid, because it does not exist

No issue, he may have a renal, lung, or heart problem and wants to take an extra step. As long as this isn’t projected on to others, I’m not concerned.

Yeah, if he is vulnerable and in close proximity. Why not protect against exactly that transmission scenario? no reason to expose yourself to that kind of viral load with a compromised immune response.
If that isn’t the case, then it’s pretty dumb…

I guess he hasn’t read all the medical reports stating the large percentage of doctors that die during surgeries from oxygen deprivation. Some people are just risk takers, you should probably give up your great humanitarian effort of trying to save them all.

Dang, I thought personal freedom was something republicans supported.
Turns out the new Republican platform is just anti-Democrat and has no actual identity. Probably why people are fleeing the 2 party system and joining Libertarian and Green parties left and right. No pun intended.

Repubs do espouse personal freedom, but hold common sense in much higher regard.
The Democrat party has been nothing but anti repub, especially Donald Trump, for 6 years and that is their only identity. We're fleeing the two party system because we see it is a UNI party and "We The People" have not been truly represented in decades.

Anybody that doubts the effectiveness of the MRNA vaccines simply needs to look at the country of China. Pretty sizable sample size.
I’m tired of treating the anti-vaxers with kid gloves. I no longer see them as gullible or ideologues.
Given the data we (you) now have, anti vaxers are either really DUMB or they have an agenda unrelated to healthcare.
