Serious question?

And perhaps this has been asked before because I’m really not on here as much as I used to be. At the beginning of the season we had high hopes. I heard all spring long and going through summer that we were going to be good and this comes from some people very close to the football team. Before we played game one I saw a clip of Dabo talking about being on the Roy bus again and the fun is in winning blah, blah, blah. So here’s my question.
How is it there is such a gigantic disconnect what we thought we were and what we actually are? This is not the first time this has happened and I just don’t understand it. Can someone please explain it to me.

Because the team was really elite form 2015-2020 people just assume the hype is real every year.
Going into this year I think media, coaches, fans just assumed that the 10-4 team would “scale up” by about 15-20 percent with so many returning starters.
Our played just didn’t continue developing and we didn’t bring in enough fresh blood to hit a higher level….that still doesn’t explain our big regressions however!

Movie producers are always going to tell you that their film

will be a blockbuster hit. They want you in the seats, so why would they say otherwise?
That's why few coaches are going before the press and say things like, "Man, we suck hind t*ts on a boar hog and will be lucky to win two games." OR "Our players have their heads stuck up their behinds and most likely, will be a monstrous flop this year." OR "I could kick myself in the assss for putting the kind of staff and team together we've got this year." OR "Whatever you do, take your money and buy someone else's stock this year."
Maybe, I'm joking......or maybe, I'm not. But I've never heard a coach talking like that. No Sir-ee. It's all sunshine and roses, we're ready to take em on! It's called Coaches' Speak for a reason.....
The answer: wait and see what unfolds on the gridiron, game after game.

Yeah, but again I heard from some inside sources that we were just pretty darn good. What explains that disconnect?

Danny Ford used to downplay his team all the time. Not to the point of "we're gonna suck". But more that he was concerned about this or that position group. I think Dabo could've (and probably should've) done some of that this preseason instead of all of the sunshine and rainbows.

If you were paying attention, you would have known we weren’t gonna be as good as the pundits were saying. We all had a good laugh over the summer at how everyone was hyping up Cade for the heisman when we all knew he sucked. Maybe some of us were holding our breath, but deep down we knew Cade wasn’t it. Granted, I didn’t expect us to be THIS bad…..so I guess I am a little shocked in that respect
