I don’t disagree with this. Just as I contribute separately to Clemson’s academic programs and support, and don’t want those funds going toward support of athletic programs.

...except a very little about Haley, Graham and Scott as they are involved in national politics. (Right now, I couldn't even tell you who the other senator is or who the governor is.)
But, I would assume that the money for the lawsuit is coming from the athletic budget which would be raised by private funds anyway. I would be shocked if the president and the BOT (or whoever governs the university) would take state funds to pay for the lawsuit anyway.

I thought Tim Scott was a former senator. I thought he had resigned (not run for reelection).
Tim Scott was one of the most vocal critics of Trump while he was dunning for POTUS. Back when there were several people on the debate stage he was quick to state that Trump should never be president again. Then, as soon as he dropped out he couldn't wait to run to Trump and endorse him, standing next to him at a campaign rally stating, "I love you, man."
But, that's what politicians do. Especially politicians who want to be veep.

Senator Hutto even said that Clemson has said they would only use athletic funds and not funds received from taxpayers. Another waste of our elected officials time passing unneeded bills

I am pretty sure that the recently found billions was originally earmarked for real colleges, like Clemson, to assist in changing conferences ......... since no one actually knows what it is for. One thing for sure ..... it will be spent.

Not trying to turn this into a D vs R debate but...Clemson shouldn't be using tax dollars for this. Right? So this guy has a justified point, right?

The state imposes tax on football tickets don't they? You don't think Clemson playing SEC opponents would bring a lot more fans than the ACC schools that barely travel - boost ticket sales and spend there money in other things like hotel and food in SC generating even more sales tax.

More than likely there would need be another expansion at some point. My point was more the state has no problem or issues when it comes to collecting taxes on athletic event ticket sales.

Legally would this not be an Article 1 violation of the Constitution against ex post facto regulation?
Assuming it would be applied uniformly in the future it couldn’t be applied to what’s already occurred if and to what extent CU has used taxpayer $$ for legal costs against the ACC

This is not an issue. Universities have many revenue streams other than state tax dollars. The financial folks can spin it however they want. They can even say that money from my kids’ parking fines is what paid for the lawsuit.
