Sadly, we have some heartbreaking news to share on the Chopping Block this Sunday afternoon.

Diane Andrews, wife of longtime Florida State assistant coach Mickey Andrews, has died. News of her death began circulating around the FSU community late Sunday afternoon. She was 69.

Earlier this year, the family announced she had stomach cancer.

FSU athletics director Randy Spetman released the following statement Sunday afternoon:

“We have lost a member of our Seminole family today. Diane was a special person whose love and caring touched us all, including hundreds of student-athletes. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mickey and their family.”

Mickey Andrews retired from FSU following the 2009 season after having spent 26 years with the Seminoles, serving as defensive coordinator. When he departed, he was the longest tenured assistant coach in ACC history. Coaching each of those seasons alongside former longtime head coach Bobby Bowden, Mickey Andrews boasts two national championships and 18 first-round NFL draft picks from his FSU tenure. In total, he has been part of five national championship teams.

Many who know Mickey understand how strong the bond has been that he and his wife share.

In 2011, Tallahassee television station WCTV (CBS) sat down Mickey and Diane Andrews and spoke to them about life after football. Be sure to take a look at their interview with former WCTV reporter Jill Chandler down below.

many probably don't know that Mickey was on both Pell and Ford's staff at Clemson.

Diane was a great lady. When Mickey was here with Charley Pell, they were a great couple. She was an awesome lady and this is a tough situation. They were taking care of two grandsons, who I believe were about 12 to 14 years old. They were Mickey and Diane's sons kids who died last year.
