OK, I believe there is some real talking with conferences...

... and universities.
I've checked a couple of sites on the net that, while they are not above posting things to get clicks, they are responsible enough to let people know what they are saying is just reporting what others are saying.
I just left an FSU site in which the guy sounded very much like David Hood. He said, "We don't know a lot more than we know." But, he was a little more optimistic than I am about how soon Clemson and FSU can leave. He thinks "there might be" something to the 8/15 date and an announcement "could be" made.
Let me make it clear, he did not say it will happen. He did not predict it will happen.
Here is what we are very sure of: FSU and Clemson are trying to get out of the ACC because they know they cannot compete over a long period of time with the current dollar package in the ACC.
Rumors start popping up everytime there is definite movement. They did when TX/OU announced, when USC/UCLA announced, and when CU announced.
It seems reasonable that B1G and SEC are not finished expanding. It seems reasonable that FSU and Clemson are in a good position whenever either conference decides to make a move.
But, nobody - certainly not me - knows how complex the situations are or the timing.
I'm hoping sooner. But, I'm not thinking it will be announced by 8/15 this year.

I’d be surprised if it’s this year. This smells more like someone shaking the $EC tree to see if there is any interest

Saber rattling IMO - both towards the ACC and towards ESPN

to the ACC - for unequal share. To ESPN - hey, we think we have a pathway out and to the B1G and Fox(and if we go some others probably will too) - Not only would ESPN lose the 2 biggest football products but they also would have to replace with games between lesser opponents to fill the vacated timeslots. ESPN might come back to the table to prevent and buy more time. A few things could happen. 1) more $ to Clemson/FSU 2)shorter timeframe on agreement 3) ACC could also agree to unequal sharing on current amounts. Some combination may be enough to patch things through until some of the other agreements start expiring 5-7 years from now.

I'm a thinking the tobacco road schools would probably stay in the ACC just to claim the title of being the best FB team in the ACC

I hope they stay. They will become even more irrelevant.

I don’t expect anything major to happen until the Big 12 television package is finalized. That will happen before the end of 2024. The consensus seems to be that if nine schools vote to leave the ACC then the conference ceases to exist and the grant of rights dies with it. Obviously the Big 10 and the SEC are not going to take, between the two of them, nine ACC schools. Everyone needs a landing spot and the Big 12 could be that landing spot for some of the ACC schools that don’t become part of the Big 10 or the SEC. It’s doubtful the Big 12 television contract will be nearly as lucrative as the Big 10 or SEC packages but will have to be better than the garbage deal Swofford and the ACC got duped into.

less than the ACC makes. In a similar ballpark though. Both well behind the SEC and B1G deals

Bret, I still find it difficult to believe the SEC would

sit idly, allowing the B1G to encroach into the South scooping up teams like Clemson, FSU or other southern ACC programs.
Doing so gives the B1G tremendous exposure deep within SEC territory, a fact that could affect recruiting. Imagine the likes of Ohio State, Michigan, PSU and others fielding teams weekly in southern stadiums.
My point is it would make more sense for the SEC to leap into action to try to prevent the above scenario, the failure to do so becoming a massive lack of foresight. Thus, I'm not so sure a lot of the rumors floating aren't a flotilla of smoke and mirrors.
Lastly, for some time I have believed that we are headed toward super-conferences of 20 teams, spearheaded by the B1G and SEC with the most aggressive moves currently by the B1G. Hence, I believe the Big 12 will enter the fray decimating the Pac 12, and we'll wind up with three supers. Where Clemson will land, I haven't a clue.

That is why I predicted last summer that by then end of March 2023 there would be an announcement that Clemson and FSU were heading to the SEC. I thought with B1G getting USC and UCLA the situation would be, "SEC, the ball is in your court." I thought the SEC would say, "We'll see your USC/UCLA and raise you a Clemson/FSU."
But, it didn't happen, at least not yet.
I think if the SEC thought that the B1G was going after Clemson and FSU they would jump in and go after them, too.
But, as of today, all we have is speculation that B1G is considering FSU and Clemson. We don't know whether they are or not.

I fail to see any advantage the SEC would have by adding anymore teams . Sure the total dollar amount would go up on a tv package, but the average amount per team I can’t see going up by much, if at all

I watched a video this morning with 4 talking heads. Ryan Kandor was one of them and some FSU guy was on it too.
Kandor was positive if no new comes out of the next meeting of FSU's Board of Regents then FSU is fated to join the SEC. If there is an announcement FSU will be Big 12 property next year according to the FSU guy.
That link is posted here on Tnet's football forum. It's an hour and half long but only the first half hour is ACC stuff, I think.
