Running on Ga
Aug 6, 2013, 7:31 AM
|
|
I see the Ga homers are predicting that CU will be unable to run the ball on Aug 31. Our line has drastically improved over the last 2 seasons and now we have depth. Ga's D line is manned by a group of newbies. Hot Rod will run very well against their D. I think he will open his season with a 100 yd performance against the Dawgs. I also don't think Gurley or Marshall will get 100 yds.
Ga. fans are fixing to learn that they ain't as good as they think they are. And, we are better than they think we are. Let the butt whoopin' begin!!!!

that Hot Rod outrushes both UGA RB's? Not collectively, but individually. Okay. Hope you're right.
Don't let anyone talk you into putting $$ on that.

Ha!! If you think that your defense is going to stop Gurley and Marshall from getting a hundred yards then you don't know crap about our running game. If your running game is so good then how many games did your running backs rush for over a hundred? Because ours rushed for over a hundred in every game except the Carolina game, and that includes Florida and Alabama whose defenses were top 5 and yours is definitely not top 5.

I think Ga will run for over 100 collectively, but neither Gurley or Marshall will break the century mark individually.
Hot Rod will go for more than 100 by himself. Actually he'll do it in Big Chunk plays. Look for some 20-25 yd runs.

allow me to clairify if i may........we are worried about the tiger running game but not McDowell. Boyd is our major concern here....we need to keep him contained. it may also shock you to know that 9 of our 11 projected starters on defense have started at least one game and some have more. i think Gurley and marshall both rush for 100+ and that tiger fans are fixing to learn that they aint as good as they thought they were.

Ain't it gonna be fun to see which one of us is right. You are definitely a Ga homer. And, I'm a Tiger through and through.
My prediction Gurley 60 yds 1 TD Marshall 45 yds 0 TD Murray 20 for 35 215 yds, 2 TD, 2 ints Ga 27
Hot Rod 115 yds 2 TD Watkins 125 yds 2 TD Boyd 32 for 45 3 Tds, 0 ints, 45 yds CU 38
Take it to the bank!

Gurley ran for 47 yards and no TD's against Kentucky last year. Their rush defense was ranked 62 nationally and ours 57. Obviously your running game can be neutralized. For me, our running game is an unknown with the loss of Ellington but you can count on our defense being vastly improved over last year. Georgia doesn't have a lock on anything in this game and I hope their players are as overconfident as their fans.

I think most SEC fans look at a team that runs the spread with a bunch of scatbacks and automatically disrespects them. It's not our historical model of what a running team should look like. But that doesn't mean that it cant be effective. I think yall will get your yards underneath. Our defensive line is deeper than it has been in years and our LB's will prove to be the class of the SEC. Thats not hyperbole. Our secondary is a different story.
You need to go back and watch the LSU game again if you really think your defense has a chance of holding Gurley and Marshall to < 100 yards. Wide splits and poor playcalling made the CU defense look much better than it is. If we make the same mistakes offensively that LSU did then I expect Clemson to win handily. I dont think we will make those mistakes.

If you want to cherry pick one game versus comparing the entire season then have at it.

Just said that game supplies us with a model to follow to slow down the Ga. running attack. I feel we are better on D line than Ky. so it could work well for us too.

Well, the LSU game is lauded here and other Clemson forums as a primary reason for optimism in the Clemson defensive front 7. Yall stopped a historically potent LSU ground game. When I watch that game though I see clearly why yall were able to do that and I look for reasons why yall wont be able to do that against us. The LSU game just seems to be touted as yalls best defensive performance.

But after the Orange Bowl, we heard the same thing from other teams, about how the defense was so bad last time, how would it get better? It wasn't great, but it wasn't Orange Bowl level.
The LSU game was the last game played, so it should be a more accurate assessment of current potential, particularly when very little of it went to high NFL draft rounds.

LSU's OC made the same mistake over and over. It was really comical to watch yall destroy the LSU O line and see Studrawa do absolutely nothing to counter it. Every coach makes mistakes. Only a select few are as dumb as Studrawa

Losing 9 starters, and 12 guys that started games

does not make for a deep defensive line. UGA D strength will come from the LBs, but you're not exactly sending three or four to the 1st team All-SEC. We'll see when the ball gets spotted, but I just don't see how the defensive line will be a strength. Secondary, we agree on. Hope the hurt UGA guys heal up soon.

Last year we ha a D line coach who had been mailing it in for years. He rarely subbed and this caused some attrition along the line.
This year we've got a new coach and probably a good * players that we can sub in for the 3 positions. We're deeper than we've been along the line in years. LB's are under rated but will be the strength of our defense.

throughout the year, but don't expect miracles the first part of the season and this is where/when the inexperience will rear it's ugly head. this is what us t-netters have been trying to tell you. we are not saying y'all will suck all year, just the 1st game, 'cause we all hope like he** y'all get it together by week 2!

I actually see both UGA RB's rushing for 100+ yards each. UGA is not so stupid that they don't understand ball-control. Running the ball eats the clock and keeps our O on the sidelines (not scoring). UGA has two of the best RB's in the country (we wanted BOTH of them) and they know it. Even a fool is going to run, run, run, and run some more if they have those 2 guys. Keeping our D on the field almost assures UGA of a win. Yes - Murray can throw and hurt in various ways because he's that good, but they will use their RB's to win this game. Our D has to STOP THE RUN or we lose this one. We can only win in a shootout type of game. We need to score almost EVERY time we get the ball to win it.
