Heading down Memorial Day week. Any recommendations for things to do? Things to see? Taking the family and lots of kids. Thanks in advance.

Wear sunscreen
enjoy the beach
might want to go see "Angel Oak" while you're there. you can google it. Sounds boring but it's impressive.

I have a cat named "Al" also. Al Qaeda. He terrorizes the other cats.
My wife is ashamed of his name. She introduces him as "Boo".

My #1 recommendation would be to choose a different beach

around here. I guess if you have a place rented with parking its probably OK, but Folly is easily my least favorite Charleston-area beach.
It's too crowded, traffic getting over there is ABYSMAL, the parking situation is horrific, and wait times for restaurants are frequently 1-2 hours.

You just described every city in every state, unfortunately...it's gotten way too crowded everywhere anymore

Re: ^^^^^^^ h as not been to IOP lately

The NAZI arrested me one night when I lived on the IOP for DUI. Told them I hadn't been drinking just tired and cold (Midnight on Palm Blvd in Dec), but they took me to the Jail over off I-526, gave me a breathalyzer, blew 0.00, they still locked me up for 18 hours. When it was all over the case was thrown out, the Sarge demoted, and I sued the City of IOP for false arrest, and illegal search and seizure and won. But the IOP cops are the only Cops in the USA that I DON'T support, they are NAZI, for sure.

by if you don't make it a point to park within a block of the pier.
Seconded on "The Washout" where the lighthouse is. I've got a camping spot out in the woods by the tidal creek back there that the constables never bothered me at even though you're not supposed to camp on the beach.
Lost Dog Cafe and Snapper Jack's (is that still there?) are other good spots to grab grub in addition to the ones you mentioned.

The wait times are like that all over Charleston right now..

Every restaurant you walk/drive past has a "help wanted" or "we're hiring" sign. Restaurant owners simply can't find enough wait staff.
There are plenty of jobs but people are sitting at home on their a$$es waiting for the next handout (stimulus/unemployment check) from the Biden administration.

First of all let me say I love Folly. Grew up going there and now it is a very eclectic, different vibe type of place. Not everyone's cup of tea.
Not sure how young your kids are but there are at least 2 pretty good playgrounds that my grand daughters enjoyed. Also Folly River park is nice. Folly Beach County park is being rebuilt after hurricane damage but coming along nicely last time we were there 1 year ago. Sail Folly is a very nice sailboat tour. Charleston SUP Safaris is very cool. There is a dolphin tour that is good.
The Lost Dog Cafe will not disappoint. Ritas and The Crab Shack are also very good. Bowen's island is great. Go to Crosby's for fresh seafood to cook yourself. Bert's Market has a bit of just about everything.

Go to the very end past the washout. Park and walk past the gate down the old coast guard station ruins. Keep going until you get to the end and it will end at the beach and ocean with a great view of the light house. If your fishing 12th street rocks are good spot. Get fresh shrimp at Crosby’s. NOT the frozen stuff.

Make sure you park with all tires OFF the pavement, even on the side streets. If you don’t and they catch you it’s a $40.00 ticket. Excessive.

I'm assuming you already have a place reserved.

So just stay parked. Everything you need is within walking distance.Unless you just have to go to a major chain store or into Charleston.

My recommendation would be to change your reservation to Kiawah Island. 12 Miles of uncrowded beach. Can bike on the beach, too.
