This pitching staff… I know he sees the issues and now he has to go out and get some big time arms even if that’s from the portal … we have no velo on this team hardly when you watch other teams, and that’s all fine before ppl start yelling Maddox and glavine etc but you can’t groove 90 mph fastballs. You have more room for error with velo and you can make a living throwing 88-91 but you better have pin point accuracy and we def don’t. I would expect to see us bring in some arms that’s the glaring issue with this program right now.

Yea I don’t know how that combo goes but there are def more than a handful of guys especially in the pen that just can’t get it done and have had plenty of opportunities IMO. So some way yes I’d tell em they are welcome to stay (prob not on scholly anyways with baseball numbers) and tell em playing time will go down a lot next year and let them make that decision

It’s kind of ironic how we have no problem casting players aside in baseball while somehow thinking adding 3-4 players from the portal in football is somehow going to ruin our culture

Little late for this season unless he has already signed some pitchers. We gave up 25 runs against Louisville in the 3 regular season and have won most of our games this year by outscoring teams. Pitching has not been our strong suit for sure.

I absolutely love Gordon as a closer because he’s bringing 95-97 with a great breaking ball but as a starter he sits 93 with a flat fastball

Billy Martin(one of the great big league managers) would not consider an owner's offer unless said owner agreed to also hire his pitching coach-Art Fowler. Fowler-reknown for developing pitchers was invaluable and very close to Martin. We(Clemson) need to be sure we have the very best at this coaching position. Maybe we do, but if our pitching does not improve dramatically we will never get to Omaha again. Bakich knows this and lets hope he is provided whatever it takes to get the job done.

I also wonder about Bellanger after this second season with carry over players stagnated. What was his level of success at FSU? Was he part of the problem that got Jarrett hired as the Noles head coach?

The Noles pitching staff was phenomenal with Bellanger there

All we heard was how great Bellanger was , and he may be… unfortunately I think most of our issues are just talent. Outside of knaak (who is a freshman and miles ahead of anyone we have which should tell you something) and maybe Gordon and smith , we just don’t have talent. As I said above I don’t understand why we never have a handful of guys especially go to guys out the pen that had high velo with strikeout pitches like mos together top 10-15 have. Pitching has been a weakness for way too long and brining guys in from wofford or Winthrop and wherever else is not the answer. We need to start either bringing in talent or do a better job developing. I don’t understand how the philosophy is pitch to contact but we walk a ton of guys it seems m, and you can’t pitch to contact against top teams in the post season or you will have a quick exit. Yes you win a lot of regular season games with a good offense but you see it every year in the mlb playoffs , runs go down in the post season, more stressful ABs which is where velo becomes valuable.

Monte and his pitching coach left the cupboard mostly empty. And his last year or two Monte’s staff just walked and walked and walked everyone. It was gonna take time to correct all that crap.

IMO the MLB rule actually screws up college BB by allowing kids to move straight into pro BB right out of HS. If I've said this once, I have said it more than a hundred times, that rule should change. If not, remove college BB as a college sport. I bet that would make everybody with an interest in college baseball players agree to the same rule as it is with college FB, 4 years of college BB before allowed to play MLB!!!!
With the rule the way that it is now, college baseball will never be the best that it could be...

Alot of MLB has to do with college costs. 11.7 scholarships really steers top high school kids to the draft. Meanwhile, the college game is getting more players drafted these days because of development. If this new college athletics settlement opens up baseball to full scholarships plus 3rd party NIL I think more high school talent will choose 3 yrs of college ball before getting drafted. That’s actually a huge leveling of the current playing field for Clemson. Clemson talent acquisition has suffered tremendously under the 11.7 limit and expensive out of state tuition. Bakich is the right coach to sell Clemson and development to high school kids.

I def agree with this for sure ! If we have say a million to offer some of these arms and so do the other top schools , what changes from what it’s been ? I see your point about kids deciding to come to college instead of the draft but if there’s a 20 million dollar “cap” we know most of that is goin to football with the kids we recruit , and I’m not arguing against that at all bc I want the football program back to where we were…
IMO the biggest issue is the scholarship numbers period , why does it make any sense for baseball to only get 11.7 scholarships!? It should be minimum 20-25 bare minimum and that would help a lot of thr issues with college baseball… I think there should also be some type of declaration period for these high school players so the mlb teams and colleges work together and they have to decide on the draft or college way before their name is called and they decide they wanna go to college or vice versa , makes no sense

I would agree with this but things are changing here. CU to begin allowing out of state student athletes from certain geographical areas to get in state tuition. This is a game changer!
Talent development has vastly improved to keep more players. MLB ultmaltely wants to reduce the number of rounds in the draft and do away with more levels of MiLB and go with the football model and let the NCAA schools develop talent.

Clemson’s pitching numbers are not bad statistically, upper half of ACC in most.
Defense and hitting are lower statisiticallly.
And we have guys with mid 90’s velo. Some lower mid 90’s, definitely Gordo is mid upper 9’s.
Not sure which team some of you are watching. I expect us to put the best guys out there that give us a chance to win each game this weekend.
The coastal/vandy game should be a good one. Wouldn’t be surprised if we see CCU Saturday.
