Realistic expectations

Oct 29, 2021, 8:34 AM

Since we are out of the CFP and likely the ACCCG for the first time in years, maybe it is a good time to talk about what we should realistically expect out of this program going forward. What should we reasonably expect out of the following goals:

Win the state? - I'm thinking 5/7 (will achieve in 2021, 7 of last 7)
Minimum 10 wins - I'm thinking 4/7 (will not achieve in 2021, 6/7)
Win the division? - I'm thinking 3/7 (will not achieve in 2021, 5/7)
Make the CFP (12 team model -) I'm thinking 3/7 (n/a in 2021, n/a)
Win the ACC? - I'm thinking 2/7 (will not achieve in 2021, 6/7)
Make the CFP (4 team model) - I'm thinking 2/7 (will not achieve in 2021,6/7)
Fewer than 8 wins - I'm thinking 2/7 (will not happen in 2021, 0/7)
Win the national championship - I'm thinking 1/7 (will not achieve in 2021, 2/7)

I want better results, and think we can achieve better results, but this is about what I realistically expect. What do you guys think? And before you ask, going forward, mine are based on 2021-2027 (and beyond) and NOT on a "rolling" 7 year basis.

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

Clemson isn't out of the ACCCG discussion just yet...

Oct 29, 2021, 8:47 AM

Granted, Clemson has to win out and get a little help from Wake and NC State, but there is still a chance.

Who would like to see a rematch with Pitt in the ACCCG?

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I would love to see that rematch

and noted that it is possible, when I said "likely" out of the ACC race this year. I certainly believe that we can run the table, but we don't control our destiny.

I appreciate your post…but…

Unless they wanna pay me to be the AD, I can’t worry about all that.

As a fan, I just look forward to the game each week…then on Saturday I get my beer and sit down to watch it.
Then, win or lose, I move on to the next week.

That’s about all I got.

We should never win fewer than 8 games with the way we recruit in the ACC. To do that would require us to go below .500 in Power Five games. With the current structure of the ACC I would add 1 or 2 to everything except CFP 4 Team and National Championship

We can be back in the Playoffs next year with fewer injuries and our players having more experience. This has just a year of a perfect storm that will blow over.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nope. Wrong. This has been a long time coming…

The writing was on the wall after LSU loss, then OSU loss.

The structural flaws on the O side of the ball were apparent for 2+ years. Once the generational talent moved on, it was exposed for all to see. Time for real change. Dabo GET ER DONE!

It’s guys like dsgriff who have ruined the sport. He is unable to simply enjoy the game or competition or pageantry. He has to set expectations then when the arbitrary expectations are not met he craps all over message boards wondering what went wrong. For his type the only thing that matters is winning so he can be validated based on his association with the program

Wow, sorry for "ruining the sport"

Oct 29, 2021, 9:29 AM

I thought this was a discussion board. I am a goal setter, and so is Dabo. I was just curious what some others think are reasonable goals.

As for "crapping all over the message boards", I suggest you read at least a couple of my posts. You have no clue what "type" fan I am. I am the type proudly displays his diploma, wears his orange every Friday, supports the team and coaches regardless of the outcomes, and then defends them when necessary on this, the only message board I post on. I am a sunshine pumper from the word go, and was bashed less than a week ago right here for daring to suggest that we could still win 10 games this season.

I think as a fan you can whole heartedly support your team, while criticizing certain aspects at the same time without "crapping all over the team". I have always been a Tiger fan, but have expressed many grievances with several aspects of the team this year. It also does not make you a bad fan to set expectations of what you think the program will look like within the next decade. There is a dichotomy so to speak:
-The fan that blindly supports his team and no matter what believes they will be #1 every year regardless of recruiting, coaching, trends, etc. Does not believe that anyone can have a negative opinion about ANYTHING within the program.
-The fan that supports his team, understands recruiting, critiques questionable coaching and playcalling, and realistically understands how these aspects impact and effect the programs sustained success.

You sir, are part of the second category that understands these aspects, and for that you should not be bashed.

Not a bad estimate on your part.

One place I will comment on is the "win the division" line.

It should be 5 out of 6. Last year we couldn't win the division so it should be out of 6 years and not 7.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We lose 2 (maybe 3) more… hope we stay home after season

Oct 29, 2021, 1:17 PM

Going to some meaningless, 3rd tier bowl (e.g Meinekie, etc) is a slap in the face. Just let the seasin go and start making staff change announcement ASAP. It isn’t like Dabo hasnt had plenty time to be planning for action once the seasin is done. LETS GO!

We are lucky to win 3 more games this year. In expecting a top 10 team next year with a new qb.
