Realinement clues and reading between the lines

Jul 24, 2021, 1:33 PM

First clue- Dabo made a comment this week to the effect "they may all get 48 or 50 teams." Big clue.
Second clue- the timing. Texas and Oklahoma moved now for some pressing reason. After the season would have made more sense. They are trying to get ahead of something. With the 12 team playoff all but a sure thing the financial pressure became public.
Between The Lines (BTL) - Clemson is never going to have as much pull as it does right now. The playoff requires every team to secure its seat at the table. All this could not be happening at a better time for Clemson.
BTL- the SEC product is better than the ACC product. It's worth more money. Clemson adds value, more than Texas or Oklahoma.
BTL- Clemson, UNC, UVA, Va Tech, FSU get included. Ga Tech, NC State and Miami are on the bubble. Wake, Duke, Cuse, B.C., Louisville, Pitt are dead weight and in big trouble. Kentucky, Vandy, Miss State, Mississippi, and possibly Missouri are on the bubble.
BTL- Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Penn State, Nebraska, Iowa get included. The other Big 10 schools are in trouble.
BTL - Clemson is already positioned. We have to be. DRad would be a fool not to anticipate the Texas and Oklahoma move.
BTL- history and tradition mean nothing. Everything is going to be new and the chips will fall where the dollars place them. Giant change is coming.
BTL- This change is going to be historic in scope. The super conference will be broken down into regions for the purposes of broadcasting to targeted audiences.
BTL- somewhere somebody has this already mapped out. I suspect Texas and Oklahoma are trying to position themselves to gain leverage. As things stand now they have very little. Events are currently driving their decisions, they are being dictated to.
BTL- Clemson holds the right cards. We may not be able to dictate but no champion is going to be crowned without us. Big #### card.

Am I wrong here, OKla. and UT have a better chance of making the playoffs where they are rather than joining the SEC. They will have more losses in the SEC.

That is true - today. However, a $10M annual boost in revenue will make them competitive for the future.

When you didn’t include USuC as in big trouble, I knew everything you wrote was likely wrong.

I agree Clemson has an extremely high value right now. I'm not sure that value exceeds that of Texas. That's a huge school with a lot of alumni.

The next year or two should be interesting.
