that would be nice, but I think that train has left the station. No value. Minor is pitching decent enough and need to get JJ back.

They should have put him in that package to get Bourn.

Maybe if they threw him and another minor league prospect the Astros would have given up Pence too. Kinda doubt it but it's nice to dream.

The Braves screwed themselves in the Bourne trade. Bourne and Schaefer are apples to apples IMO. They could have kept Schaefer and just given away some minor leaguers and they'd be in the exact same place they are now. They let Beltran get away, and they let Pence get away (to the division rival PHILLIES, no less). Atlanta has never made very good decisions at the trade deadline, IMO.

Dear Topher,

The trade deadline has passed. He would have to clear through waivers or wait till the end of the season. What team is willing to pay his 2012 salary anyways? It will be really tough getting rid of him in the off season. I do agree with you though, we should have gotten rid of him a long time ago.

IMO, the Bourne trade was perfect. They have a true leadoff hitter that is hitting .300, OBP .360 and is leading all of MLB with 42 steals. With him getting on base so often, it helps all the hitters behind him because they will see more fastballs to keep him from stealing bases. All we gave up was Schafer and some pitching prospects without giving up any TOP pitching prospects. In order to have landed Pence or Beltran, we would have had to at least given up Minor, which Wren was not willing to do.

Schafer was hitting .240, OBP .307, and only 15 steals.
