Questions About Magnificent 7

I think the best scenario for Clemson regarding national title games would be to stay in an intact ACC that was making comparable money to the Big and SEC. It appears that is not possible regarding the money, nor is it possible regarding perception of not being in one of the big two conferences. With that, I have some questions.
1. I am hearing the 8th school could join the 7 fairly quickly. If so, what is the goal? Is it to immediately dissolve the conference to be free of the GOR? Is it to demand unequal revenue distribution?
2. If the 7 or 8 schools go down this rabbit hole, do they each have a landing spot? I can't imagine going out on a limb like this and not knowing for sure where you are going to end up. How could that many schools have a landing spot unless some are accepting that their spot is the Big12?
3. When would the presidents get involved? There is never going to be a meeting where the ADs determine that they are going to get out of a conference. That is something that is done at the presidential level. Have the presidents given these ADs their marching orders?
4. Would Clemson go to this extent if not assured of a BIG10 or SEC spot? Would we go to this to get to Big12? Why would any of the schools put their neck out like this to go to the Big12?
5. Is it possible the 7 or 8 are looking to break and create a completely new conference? If that's the case, where would the tv deal come from? The Pac is unable to get one, and I don't think ESPN would be warm to give a deal considering the way this is going down.
6. How do you see this working out in your best educated guess? Where do you see the different teams ending up?
Sincerely interested in your answers to the above, be it educated guesses, gut feelings, etc.

I think it was Dabo that said there will ultimately be 2 super conferences that will compete for national championships in football. Everyone else will play for something else. I think it's clear what Clemson is trying to do.

1) I think the demand will be unequal revenue distribution by threat of dissolution.
2) they won’t all have landing spots but they will be better positioned than schools that pledge allegiance to ACC.
3) I’m sure the presidents are already involved behind the scenes, it wouldn’t have gotten this far without their involvement.
4) I think Big10 must be a good bet right now. Many other current investments outside of football align with Big10 values. And I’m sure Big10 is anxious to plant a flag in the southeast. UNC, Clemson, FSU, Miami and GT all make air of sense for that league so who knows who would get the invites. The first three make the most sense though, but we would need to go AAU to really stand a chance. SEC is a good backup athletically but lacks the prowess academically that Clemson would like to attach its brand to, and SEC is less inclined to grab Clemson because it wouldn’t further their goals as much as adding a VT or UNC. Can’t imagine Big12 is in the conversation at all.
5). No chance they would look to form a new conference. Unless Big12 and PAC dissolve and the top schools from each form a national conference. But that seems like too Many moving parts to be likely.
6). My guess is Clemson is a Big10 school in 2025.

Seems to me ending the GoR is the top priority. Then the remaining hurdle to leave is the exit fee. That can be managed and timing to leave is more flexible. Similar to how Texas, OU, USC, and UCLA gave notice of their plans to leave in a few years aligned when tv contracts were expiring or expansion of the new conference was planned. Clemson could then begin discussions with both destination conferences to get all options on the table.
I could see the Big10 deciding the next expansion phase isn’t desirable until say ‘28 since they are just now getting ready to add two. Probably timed with their next negotiation window with FoxSports and NBC (plus probably an added platform like Amazon or Apple). Remember expansion only makes financial sense if they can get increased tv revenue along with extra schools. There’s no interest in diluting their revenue sharing.

Vandy, Florida, Texas and dare I say even Georgia are all highly ranked academically. But there are also some trash schools in there, but they all serve a mission to educate a wide swath of the population.

Keep in mind some of the reports of conference expansion over the years that were wrong:
2010: Missouri to the Big Ten 2010: Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Oklahoma St, Texas A&M, to the Pac 12. 2010: Clemson, Florida St, Georgia Tech, Louisville to the SEC.
2011: Texas, Oklahoma,Texas A&M, Oklahoma St to the Pac 12.
2012: Clemson and Florida St to the Big 12
Often times, these rumors, even from legitimate sources, turn out to be wrong.

That's true, but the college football landscape has changed a lot since 2012 when those rumors were going around. This time the ACC is without a doubt in trouble. There is not competing as a major conference. There isn't enough large fanbases or teams that draw eyes. Clemson has to leave to survive as a powerhouse.

From what I'm hearing out of Amelia Island, the "magnificent 7" are definitely up to something.....ACC commish Jim Philips has put a lid on all press interactions.

5. It looks to me the deal would still have to come from cutting out the smaller school (lesser football brands) mouths to feed and stealing ND football away from NBC and delivering it to ESPN.

That is absurd. The only this the networks care about is market share and the attractiveness of games. In what world would 8 teams that are not attractive now, suddenly become a hot commodity, especially since the markets would not have changed. Think about this from the network side, not one team's side.

So you don't think Clemson & FSU would add value to the $EC

in the eyes of the networks or the conference, or that the B1G would not love to establish a southern presence by adding teams like UNC or UVA (for example), something they currently do not have?
