Question for the fire-Jack crowd
Apr 27, 2015, 9:28 AM
|
|
If Coach Leggett is fired, who are we going to get as a replacement? I'm not saying he should not be fired, but before somebody is fired, there better be a concrete plan in place for his replacement. And you can forget about Corbin or Sully. Neither are leaving the current post for this job.

if womens basketball and volleyball are any indication, I do not have a great deal of confidence that DRad will make the kind of hire necessary to resurrect the Clemson baseball program and return it to being a perennial conference and national power one again.

If you go older more experience, I say Gary Gilmore at Coastal, has built them into a regional power, always give us and USC a fit. Or, if you wanna go young and long-term potential, I say Monte Lee at C of C. Studied under Tanner, is a young up and comer. Both of these guys can recruit, know the SE, are known instate, and have done excellent jobs with their current Programs

AND BOTH CAN GET KIDS INTO THEIR SCHOOL THAT WOULD NEVER GET INTO CLEMSON. MY THOUGHT IS IF WE ARE GOING TO FIRE OUR COACH YOU BETTER GO FISHING FOR A SHARK INSTEAD OF A BREAM.

Disclaimer: I'm neutral on the entire fire/keep jack thing. I've been all for keeping him the past few years but I honestly don't know enough about baseball to have a legitimate argument here which is why I have chosen Bo Jackson who I know wouldn't be a viable option seeing as he seems to want to be left alone and we're not those other inferior tigers in Alabama.

at least you admit you know nothing about baseball or coaches. now if we could just get drad and droberts to admit the same thing with a guy who is going to have a losing record, we could make progress and hire a shark!

with Watson as the main guy leading the football team and Holmes being the guy on the basketball team, we need to hire Denny Doyle as the baseball guy. Maybe even get Morarity's son as the shortstop! It's elementary !

Like others have said, we can have wish lists on here

but our opinions mean next to nothing in the hiring process. I actually remember people legitimately upset about the hiring of Venables instead of Shannon. Shows how much those particular people know.
I'm sure there is some semblance of a plan but there's no telling who knows about it. If Jack hasn't been told he's being let go, then I'm sure the discussions prob aren't out in the open even though the writing may be on the wall...

I certainly hope so. If you fire a guy without a firm idea who you will hire, then the odds are not good that you will make an improvement. Don't want to go through what Tennessee went through when they fired Delmonico. I am surprised that no one has thrown out the Name Randy Mazey. He is well loved in the Clemson baseball community.

that in and of itself may be a problem and what started this whole mess! we may want to hire a GOOD baseball coach and not anything else.

That's the short list, don't know how realistic any of them are. I assume Corbin and O'Connor wouldn't come but Lee, Toman or Heefner maybe would.

I remain in the camp that if and when Jack leaves CLEMSON, that our admin/AD will follow CLEMSON tradition and go after an unproven coach that might possibly be a "diamond in the rough" and simply hope for the best. If you think it's bad now, just wait and watch that happen. Think of our BBall program and how those decisions have worked out for us.
Dey so smart!
