Not to beat a dead horse, anyone else notice the number of starting quarterbacks in the ACC that are portal players? Especially the teams that are ranked.

It would be smart of Dabo to try to bribe the Duke or NC State Qb away. Definitley need something for next year, Vizzina isn’t it.

So you think Dabo is going to ditch Cade? It’s not been his MO ever. It would suit me fine to give it a try. The Cade experiment has failed, thus far, this year.

Nobody has any idea about Vizzina. He has hardly ever played and when he does its garbage time with the other 2nd teamers. It's why I've been begging for Dabo to give him a series or two with the 1st teamers, especially when Cade plays like the qb he was in '23.

Not a dead horse. The years with TJ and Cade is an excellent example of the biggest handicap for Dabo, that is stubbornness and inability to accept that he really mis evaluated both of these QBs and realized he needed to move on. High profile kids that had good first start games but once teams had film they never developed or were never developed. 5 rated in HS but ok not great CF.

To be fair, Dabo recruited extremely well, BUT just rolled snake eyes with two 5 star top of their class qb busts. Can’t do anything but shake your head at that kind of luck.

Is it really just bad luck? It might just be mis-evaluation, and then a stubbornness of not willing to move on. That never seemed to happen with Saban.

The stubbornness and absolute loyalty to a QB once you realize he is not the one will have to be fixed. You don’t want to sink with the titanic once you know it is going down. Either a QB shows up with you knowing he has the it factor like Watson and Lawrence or he don’t. The problem seems we don’t recruit back ups with the idea that they will have to take over. Lawrence took over for Kelly several years ago at GT when Kelly was struggling moving the offense. Lawrence took over won the game and we never looked back. Seems we recruit one guy to start for the 3 or 4 years and no good backup like we did for Lawrence.

it’s hard to say Dabo misevaluated them. We shor for the top and we landed the guys everyone in the country was after.
As far as demoting them for a portal QB, are you saying he should have benched DJ after his first season? I don’t think the portal was even open then. DJ played one more season and was replaced by Cade before the end of the year. DJ transferred.
Cade looked strong the last two games of his freshman season. It didn’t carry over to his sophomore year, but he was given another year and developed into a #15 QBR and a Heisman front runner. Are you saying we should have kicked to the curb for a transfer portal guy after that?

many teams have used it to their advantage.........and many have overtaken/closed the gap/bettered their fortunes over Clemson because of it..........after 2021 the most OBVIOUS positions we should've hit the portal for were QB and/or WR.........and you could cherry pick other "one offs" to help too.

Exactly, we got two top QBs that somehow didn’t pan out. Can’t blame Dabo there, if we had two generational type of talents we would have had another national championship by now, just is what it is. Just hate that the Nil ordeal will keep Clemson from ever truly competing again in a national championship. I assume we get to the playoffs most years at least before getting train wrecked by the rich football programs.

Well yes I would have liked to go away from DJ after 2021. But I was still hopeful he’d improve in 22. You say Dabo replaced him near the end of that season. Actually it was after the regular season. DJ went 3 and out and threw an INT from the late 3rd quarter on while we watched the coots erase our 9 point lead at home. ANY score in the 4Q would have saved us from that damaging loss. DJ started the same way in ACCCG and Dabo finally sat him. Then he transferred. Was Dabo surprised by how well Cade played that night? Who knows? But all we had heard was he’s not ready. And now Vizzina and Denson? Are they ready? Who knows? Gotta say I’m not if Dabo knows.

That's the same as saying Cade could enter the portal and be great somewhere else. Cade was a 5* QB, its hard to get any better....I just think our personnel of coaches on offense aren't getting the max potential out of them. Like...would it even matter if we got a transfer QB if our coaches are just going to screw up that up too? Every QB we get just gradually gets worse, that's a product of coaching.

Interesting thought... Put yourself in Cade's shoes. Wouldn't you prefer to get benched and not take another snap so you still had an extra year of eligibility? You collect your $3.5M or whatever he is making this year, get a redshirt and can still play one more year at another school. I have to think there is a Big 12 school or someplace out west that would pay him $1-2M for one more year and he gets a chance to "re-invent" himself. If he stays here and keeps playing (takes one snap against UNC) with this same trajectory does he have even sniff a chance at being drafted and playing in the NFL? It seems like he would want one more year to get paid in college and a chance to start over and potentially change the perception of the NFL scouts.
From Clemson's perspective, wouldn't it be better to see what we have with CV and CD during the remainder of 2025 (with very little to lose as most of our goals are off the board at this point) so we know if they are a viable option going forward or if we need to be hunting a QB in the portal this year?

Seems it would be good for Cade to preserve his year and go somewhere else to try to make it happen. But Cade isn’t gonna initiate or push for that. It’s just not who he is, which I admire. So either Dabo forces it or hopefully we get this turned around.

Yep thats why I keep wanting to bench CK, we need to know Yesterday if Viz has anything. Doesnt really matter to me if we win 4 more games or 1, we are in rebuild mode and we need to make hard decisions. If we need a guy we need to start working on it now.
