I like that story line.
It's the story of a principled head coach who has not yet sold out to all the addlebrained pundits, harpies and skells demanding that he adapt or die. Including many of you.
It's the story of him delivering yet another 10-win, ACC champion, playoff team.
Of his "lousy" DC scheming down one of the nation's top offensive units. Of his "pathetic" OC finding a way to win despite not having an every down RB to work with. Of his historically-bad FG unit turning around and making history.
I suspect the story will end in a couple of weeks. I don't see this team advancing deep into the playoff.
But it's been a great story, and a great ride.
Go Tigers.

Good grief. Players were paid with an education and they knew how the game was played before they agreed. They want that shot at the NFL and college is the only way. If you didn't want to play for a scholly you had the choice not to play. These players should be grateful for the opportunity. Now I do agree that they should be able to market their name but I do not agree with it being paying players. If they want that kind of money to play then they should be forced to sign a contract.

They weren't treated like kings at all. They got their butts handed to them every day in practice by the starters and had to make their grades and attend the meetings and do all the work for absolutely zero glory.
And they were extremely humble and grateful for the experience, and the education they received in return.

Caveat emptor is a very large part of life, including the decision to play college football. I don't disagree with Justice Roberts about the model being broken, but, to call it exploitative is to completely misunderstand the issues that gave rise to the lawsuits that ended with the SCOTUS ruling.

Terrible take.
A HC can be principled in both the previous and current landscape. They didn’t create the NCAA system or force them not to adapt.
Are you trying to say anyone who benefited under the old system had no principles?

on the basis of his hires being a little too optimistic. Which would make him naive. Or on the basis of them being a little short on experience. Which leaves him open to criticism.
But it'd be a frosty Friday before anyone in the football community would say Swinney lacks principles.
And it'd be another frosty Friday to say Swinney's the only coach in football to place the people he knows and trusts in key positions.

My buddies and I were a pretty loud bunch when the refs eyed each other and put their arms up. Couldn't really tell from the TV angle other than it was straight on.
Really remarkable moment and the significance made it that much more so.
Still wowing and thankful our boys made enough plays to come out on top. SMU is very talented and considering Penn State's inability to capture the big ones I could easily see them taking that game there.
Great Tigers sports weekend.

Making the CFP doesn't mean what it used to.

Making the 12 team playoff should be one of our season goals, and should be celebrated.
However, it's clear that our program has declined the last few years, and winning a weak football conference and getting an automatic bid to the expanded CFP doesn't mean that we still don't have major issues with our program.
Of course, this is assuming that our goal is to be an elite football program and compete for national championships, as was the case from 2015-2020. If not, please let us know so we can revise our expectations (and thus, how we financially support the program).

But we'd probably all still be pretty thrilled about it, and probably wouldn't be taking the time to diss the head basketball coach and the direction of the b-ball program until well into the offseason when such things are put front and center.
In other words, stop being so Jungian about the football program, and, as the nameless Colonel from Full Metal Jacket suggested, jump on the team and come on in for the big win.

Your closing kind of sums it up for me. Do we want to just make the playoffs or do we want to win championships? In large part, our consistent success was because of superior talent during those years. We attracted that talent on our values and culture that few could match. Now the attractions have changed as evidenced by the loss of 7 previously committed high talent recruits.
Everything has its seasons and now the seasons have changed. We still have tremendous assets but I’m not sure they are enough by themselves to keep us elite and competitive for the grand prize.
Dabo is a smart guy and he ultimately has to determine the best course of action moving forward.
