At this point the problems are to numerous to list. What all changes do you want to see made this season?

At this point Dabo has to use the portal more than just dabbling in it. The future isn't looking bright. He also needs to fire a large portion of coaches, especially on the offensive side of the ball. He needs some new blood. Let the next OC hire his assistants and let them call the plays.

Look I have been bashing Riley hard but I really think dabo has full control of the offense.go watch some tape of Riley coached offense at tcu.i see no resemblance at all.i mean if thats the case then dabo needs to let the man do his job.

Blow it all up and start over. Tell the players you're going to play the hardest workers regardless of year, or whatever. If you don’t want to be here then leave.
At this point I would rather go 1-11 with guys that want to be there than 6-6, 7-5 with a bunch of da*n prima Donna’s.

Being this is now a business.we need to force kids out that wouldn't be on a d1 roster anywhere else in the country.keith adams,Joe Wilkinson, any kid with swinney as his last name and probably about 25 more.we need to make a rule no hiring former players unless they have 5 yrs proven experience elsewhere, stop with the loyalty and bench a player when he plays bad.dont drag it out like he did with dju which got 1 million chances.that would be good start.its so much different things we need to do.i would be here typing 5 hours.lets just start somewhere anywhere

Fire list: Riley Spiller Grisham Richardson Boyd both Swinneys Mickey Conn Pearman Batson rides off into the Sunset Eason Rumph McDaniel All other former players John Grass Lorenzo Ward Tyler Clements Jordan Sorrells
Hire list: Dave Clawson Mike Shanahan Charlie Weis Jr.
Let the OC build the Offensive staff while retaining Luke
Tom Allen should have never been hired. Should have hired Hetherman as I said at the time. But what's done is done. Let Allen hire his own coaches.
Use the freaking portal!!!!

It will be a sad day in Tiger Town. I really don't like that happening.
BUT the only way it'll happen is if CDS walks away. We can't afford a buyout for him and a buyout for the ACC.

Too many issues to fix mid season, but some things can be done. First I would start by giving more running backs meaningful snaps and carries. Target Tristan Smith more. Kid was fighting for every yard. Can't coach heart. Give both Vizz and Denson some quality drives. Put every player on notice that no one's starting spot is safe. End of the season he needs yo make some tough decisions and replace some coaches on both sides of the ball. Oh and the obvious, actually use the portal to fill holes.

that is #1. I think it would be foolish to rely on a freshman or our current back up.
We need an experience running back as well.

Dabo needs to take a step back and let some of these guys that he's hired do their job. Allow the OC and DC to suggest coaches for the various position groups instead of hiring former players and guys with zero experience, allow the position coaches to recruit the players they think will fit their scheme best and run the scheme they want to run. Stop meddling so much with the roster management.

Nothing can really be done this season - we are who we are.
Solutions going forward:
Cut staff salary overhead by 50-75%. Cut all academic support spending for players. Remonetize concessions, advertising and branding and do a better job of extracting value from these instead of hoping for donations - those are going to dry up sooner or later. Move all of the savings from the above into the player salary (NIL) budget. Hire a GM whose job is to acquire the best roster of veterans our budget allows every year. This will not be a nice person, you need a real shark in that job.
These are the things we have to do if being competitive at the highest level is what we want. I am not sure that is what the Clemson family wants though. Our other option is to become a middling feeder program training kids to go play for the big boys. There is plenty of space for teams doing that.

Assuming we keep Dabo.
First anyone below Dabo, Rielly, Allen,, Luke and Rumph. Rehire hite based on qualifications with minimum of 5 years experience some where besides Clemson and establish a zero nepotism policy. For the 5 coaches mentioned put them all on $300,000 grand salaries with the remainder of their pay divided by 12. You don't win, you don't get paid.

You better start recruiting at an elite level for high school kids. We do not. We recruit well, but not good enough to keep up with the programs we are really trying to compete against: Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Texas, etc., etc.
Talent isn’t our only issue …but we don’t have the number of high-end kids, nor the depth, that we used to. Don’t believe me, look at the results when we play these high-end programs the last few years. It’s generally not even competitive anymore. You can see the difference in talent/size when the teams take the field. Do you see the difference when we play Georgia? When you are at field level …do you see the difference in size and speed?
We need to use the portal more and be serious about it. Not a ton…just sprinkle it in like our competitors do (4-7 kids yearly). The misguided idea that using the portal is somehow going to hurt your culture is entirely incorrect. The same kids you don’t want to recruit over are leaving you anyways… your culture isn’t keeping them anymore…time to adjust. Again, you cannot prevent having open slots each year. Yet, we would rather fill the open slot with a two star that we sign at the very last minute as opposed to a proven producer from a major conference wanting a new start. None of the four transfers we took this year have hurt team chemistry or culture. The number one thing that kills culture is losing; particularly losing when it’s completely self-inflicted due to poor decisions.
Money isn’t the issue…. it’s the refusal to spend it based on someone’s philosophy that it is somehow untoward even though the current rules allow it.
A change in the strength and conditioning program should’ve been made several years ago. Batson is a great guy and has done a very good job, but it’s past time move forward here. Again, another decision that was slow walked.
Do know, changes have been made. Remember the refusal to allow summer official visits until the results got so poor that not changing was no longer an option.
CDS knows what needs to be done….but is reluctant/slow-walks to go all in on it. You will always be disappointed in the results when what you are trying to do is impossible. We literally play the modern game with one hand tied behind our back….on purpose! Why?
I get it, in an ideal world, Dabo’s way would work perfectly. It doesn’t anymore. I will leave everyone with this quote that is true in dealing with most facets of life:

I would suggest some changes to the game planning on offense and defense, and changes to our basic offensive strategy since we aren’t using the talent we have wisely, and we’re trying to make Cade do things he can’t do instead of focusing on what he can do.
But at this point it would be meaningless. The players appear not to care whether they win or lose, and our coaching is quite unbelievable. Dabo thinks the problem is that we aren’t playing “complementary” football (i.e. when the offense is clicking, the defense is not & vice versa). That’s not the problem.
I don’t know about complementary football, but we surely aren’t playing “complimentary” football.

I don't think it can be "fixed" right now, but here's what I would do ASAP:

Have a sit down with Dabo and make it clear that he needs to allow his coordinators to manage the staff on their side of the ball.
Immediately demote ALL of our current position coaches, but not the coordinators.
Allow each coordinator to bring in an entirely new staff of position coaches, and tell Dabo to sit this one out this one year. (The coordinators will 100% own the performance of each side of the ball).
Once this is done, give everyone a 1 year probation period.
If play doesn't improve in 1 year, fire everyone under Dabo and start over.

More thoughts for the pile ...
Sep 22, 2025, 3:15 PM
|
|
1) Use the Portal for depth and o-line talent. 2) Have the HC resist telling boosters & fans that his bench and high school recruits are his portal. Many starters are poor. The bench, too full of walk-ons, is non-existent. 3) Provide the OC and DC with full authority to hire/fire staff, and to set schemes and call plays. 4) Play the most talented players regardless of class and age. 5) Recruit violent and brutal football players not choir boys. 6) Eliminate Tiger Walk, slides, sleep cubicles, bowling, putt-putt, ice cream trucks and other candy-a$$ program staples. 7) Hire Nick Saban as a consultant to chop non-value-added & virtue-signaling program attributes. 8) If Dabo wishes to leave, consider Cignetti or another Saban-protege and other offensive-minded winners who will use the portal as a HC. (It doubles the coaching work load.)

If I could talk to Dabo?

1. Let Garrett Riley implement his own offense, and not be relegated to learning and running the Clemson offense.
2. Stop the favoritism and nepotism. Go get some real position coaches and analysts/assistants. It’s great that you are so dedicated to your former players, but current player development should be a priority.
3. Learn how to tell guys it would be best for them to hit the portal. You can’t be afraid to shed some of these upperclassmen who haven’t panned out, to make room for young talent.
4. You have no dawgs on this team. Remove the restrictions from your recruiting profile. I don’t see enough Nuk Hopkins, K’Von Wallace, Shaq Lawson, DW4, etc… type backgrounds on this team. Your team is full of suburban or rural kids from financially stable two parent homes. It’s the talk of barbershops all over the upstate of SC. I get an earful of it every time I go back to my hometown to get my hair cut.
