OL recruiting issues aren’t Caldwell’s doing

Jan 3, 2019, 4:26 PM

It comes down (mostly) to two factors in my view:
1) numbers. Dabo has set 15 as his total number of OL on the roster. I think that is 2-3 lower than it should be but the reality is when you recruit fewer position players, especially for OL, you will have fewer “wins”. We extend too few offers to quality OL on a year to year basis so our depth in some years will really suffer. That is just a philosophical decision by Dabo and I wish he would moderate it as this is the ONLY position we struggle at in most years.
2) type of offense. Our system is not seen as a route to the NFL by OL-men. The data seems to support this position given previous and current NFL linemen. Just comes with the territory.

Caldwell is a quality coach and our TE coach should be the one of the better recruiters on any team; unfortunate, he’s our worst recruiter so that hurts our OL recruiting opportunities.

hmmm... our TE coach is listed as the recruiter or co-recruiter for braden galloway, bt potter and x thomas in this year's class. guess that's pretty strong for the "worst recruiter" on our staff.

if You think Pearman is a good recruiter

Knock yourself out. Just because he is on the Clemson staff doesn’t make him elite or special. I’m sure he is a great guy but he is not a quality recruiter. If you think he was instrumental in Thomas coming to Clemson, that is your opinion but not a fact.

Sorry Mickey, have to disagree with your take on Taisun. He was recruited by much higher ranked schools than KB. KB overall recruiting was 3.7 and Taisun is 4.66.

KB’s 247 rating was in the mid to upper 80’s whereas TP is mid to upper 90’s- huge difference in potential ceiling heights. No matter how hard kB worked at it and gurus who taught him, he peaked... that’s ok. None knows what TP will do and what his ceiling is but to compare him to kb is a slap in the face imo. Especially the way it ended.

Go Tigers!!!
