My cold, no orange colored classes on, opinion.

Clemson is 9-3. They are 1-3 against teams above 500. They beat State and VT which are 6-6 but to me that is not a winning record. That’s a mediocre barely made bowl eligibility record. They lost to the two ranked teams they played (Georgia and South Carolina). Got beat at home by an unranked Louisville. They backed into the ACCCG. They are not a Championship caliber team.

But,

Championships are not won on paper, or rankings, or records, or strength of schedule. Championships are won on the field. So who knows? Maybe they get hot and get a few bounces and get on a run. They can hang with their opponent as we saw with USC and the first half of Georgia. And at this point it doesn’t matter how you got there. It’s that you are there. On the field. Where Championships are won. So go get it done. We’re with you.

GO TIGERS!!!

The idiom “to back in” is defined as: to secure a position in the postseason due to the loss of another team, as opposed to the victory of one's own.

Miami and SMU beat Louisville. Clemson did not. This gave the tie breaker to Miami and SMU. Clemson was on the outside looking in. Then Miami lost and by the above definition that allowed Clemson to “back in”. True, they did their part winning their other games, but they aren’t there without a Miami lost.

I’m not saying it in a bad way. I don’t really care how they got there. Just that they are there.

But we finished our ACC slate before both SMU and Miami

so we didn't "back" in to the ACC Champ game. They just finished their ACC slate of opponents after we did.

Correct. A 7-1 team does not “back in” compared to a 6-2 team. The 7-1 team earned its place.

Why do think they didn’t?

When you need an upset from another team in a game outside your control you kind of backed in. It was a gift. Yeah they won the other games to get in but they didn’t get there without the help of Syracuse. After that USC loss I think most of us were content with Clemson going to a bowl game and calling it a season.

We actually were ahead of them in the standings

Before the Cuse game…Due to having one more win…
Not sure you can call that ‘backing in’

We literally won 2 road games in November to seal it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Every ACC team played the same number of conference games.

Everyone lost more than SMU and Clemson. Don’t be a #######!

Well then. I guess Clemson "gifted" Miami by losing to Louisville.

No backing in; we had the 2nd best record and not even a tiebreaker to create any doubt.

Agree, every team in ACC played eight conference games, we won 7 to be in top two.. Miami only won 6, and it doesn’t matter that they played their last game late it the end of the schedule

A chance! You never know when a team can get hot.

Cannot argue the stats you gave as they are true and correct but your "backing in" statement is about as wrong as it can be. The two teams with the best 2 records play for the conference championship. We were one of those 2 teams so no we did not back in, we earned that spot.

Ok I’ll concede. They didn’t back in. But after that loss to Louisville they lost control of their own destiny. Even winning out in the ACC (which they did) wasn’t enough. They needed help. And they got some dang good luck with Miami losing twice down the stretch. Especially with Miami being a -11.5 favorite against Syracuse.

Coach Fran Brown gets it: “Hey Dabo Swinney, congrats. I got you in, baby!”

Dabo gets it: “Man, if we win the national championship, he’s (Fran Brown) gonna be riding in the car with me in downtown Clemson. Y’all go ahead and print that.”

Man you guys are sensitive.
